Addo Elephant Park – Conservation, Safari & Adventure
Addo Elephant Park is one of South Africa’s greatest conservation success stories. Once down to just 11 elephants in the early 20th century, the population has flourished within the park's protection. It's now one of the densest elephant populations in Africa. Today, a safari in Addo offer intimate wildlife encounters in a malaria-free setting. As well as adventure activities in the surrounding region.
Beyond elephants, you may spot lion, black rhino, buffalo, and antelope—plus the surprisingly lovable flightless dung beetle. The dense herds thrive in the Addo Valley bushveld. As the prevalent pink-speckled Spekboom - a favourite elephant snack - also helps reverse carbon emissions.
(The Spekboom is not only a favourite food for elephants, but it is also tremendously good for the planet, We should all have some in our gardens).
We always recommend that you combine your Addo safari with a scenic drive up into the Zuurberg mountains. Now part of the Greater Addo Park. Zuurberg offers hiking, horse-riding, and mountain biking. Or why not paddle the nearby Sundays River for a relaxing counterpoint to your game drives.
Addo lodges are either IN the Addo National Park, such as Gorah Elephant Camp and River Bend game lodge. Gorah even offers a magical meerkat interaction in the early mornings!
Or stay at country lodges close-by such as Woodall or the Elephant House. These offer their own guided game drives into Addo.
Finally you could also opt to stay in the beautiful Zuurberg mountains. As it is only a 30 minute drive to Addo Elephant Park.
