• What is your most memorable wildlife sighting, and what made it so special?
After a challenging trek through Rwanda’s Volcanoes National Park, we were rewarded with an unforgettable hour in the presence of mountain gorillas. As some of the group began making their way out of the crater, our guide instructed us to follow. Halfway up, we were asked to step aside as a gorilla approached from behind. Just as I leaned back, a mother gorilla passed by with her baby on her back. She paused right in front of me and glanced back at her little one, almost as if proudly showing off her baby. In that magical moment, my heart simply melted, an encounter I will cherish forever…
• What is your top safari packing tip that most people don’t think of?
Laundry services are available almost everywhere, so pack for comfort rather than fashion. You’ll be surprised by how little you actually need!
• Which animal sighting do you most look forward to on a game drive?
Wonderful wildlife sightings are what you come to Africa for, and you certainly won’t be disappointed. But for me, it’s also about soaking up the moment, sounds and smells of the bush. One of my favourite moments is stopping for sundowners, drink in hand, and simply listening to the profound silence around me. It’s in those moments that I feel truly free, as though I can finally take a deep breath and just be.
• Which hidden gem in Africa would you recommend to travellers, and what makes it special?
I love discovering South Africa’s hidden wine gems; award-winning wineries tucked away off the beaten track, often overlooked simply because they’re beyond the well-known Winelands
• What is the one thing you want travellers to remember about their time in Africa?
I want travellers to connect with the real people of Africa and return home with their hearts touched, their perspectives changed and lasting memories of the warmth and kindness of the people they meet.
