This Zeederberg Trail self-drive is not so much a set tour as some suggestions for more adventurous self-drive clients. Perhaps second or third time visitors to South Africa.

In the north of South Africa you can head off the well-trodden paths and explore a quieter, beautiful part of South Africa, as well as enjoying the Greater Kruger region as well. We have changed this tour to show a 7 night self-drive which can be ADDED onto a stay at one of the private game lodges of the Kruger. (There is also a 9-night version which adds on 2 nights in the Welgevonden Private Game Reserve – see later.)

It is designed to show you a more remote and beautiful part of South Africa and into the Tuli Block of southern Botswana. So it is the perfect complement to the magnificent Kruger Park. You are on tarred roads for all of the trip. Yet you travel through some of the most remote and authentic parts of South Africa combining a superb, varied safari experience with wonderful scenery and food.

We suggest that you start after your Kruger safari (at a lodge of your choice.) You first visit the scenic highlands of the Blyde River Canyon and Kruger Escarpment. Then continue onto equally scenic Tzaneen uplands.

From there you enjoy two nights at the scenic game reserve of the Leshiba Wilderness for a safari and cultural experience. Finally you head, perhaps via Mapungubwe  to Mashatu Game Reserve for 3 nights of rugged game viewing with adventurous safari options available. (bush walks and mountain biking.)

• 1 night Summerfield Lodge or Tanamera on the Panorama Escarpment, Bed & Breakfast
• 1 night Kings Walden Garden Manor, Tzaneen region, Bed & Breakfast

• 2-3 nights Mashatu Lodge, Tuli Block in southern Botswana, Fully Inclusive
• Return to Johannesburg (long drive)
• Optional Extenson: Add on another 2 nights in the Welgevonden Game Reserve.

Tailor-made options

We recommend adding it to 3-4 nights in Cape Town and 3 nights on safari in the Kruger Game Reserves to make a 13 to 14 night itinerary.

If you have less time for this add-on, you can cut out a night or two. Chat to us about the possibilities.

If you have more time, we strongly recommend adding two nights in Welgevonden Game Reserve. Our 9-night price shows Elephant Crossing Lodge. But there is a wide selection for a contrasting safari experience.
