Lehisba Mountain Retreat

CEDARBERG RATING

Overview

Leshiba Mountain Retreat is a private wildlife and eco tourism destination on top of the Soutpansberg Mountains, 36km west of Louis Trichardt in northern South Africa. It's a magical place to take a walk on the wild side. It is also the perfect stopping off place en route to either Mashatu or Mapungubwe.

Where in the world are you free to walk without a guide amongst wildlife, cycle untamed terrain, track game, learn about medicinal plants or discover ancient Rock Art?

There’s a range of activities on offer from hiking trails, game drives, bir-watching, guided walks to see the rock art, learn about medicinal plants and archaelogy. Back at the lodge, there’s a swimming pool, in room massages on offer and star-gazing.

Leshiba Venda Art Lodge

The Leshiba Venda Art Lodge is nestled on the hillside overlooking our Duluni valley. You can spend all day simply relaxing on the deck and watching the wildlife grazing and coming to the waterhole to drink – a remarkable real-life spectacle.

An incredible work of art built on dreams and inspiration. Our hearts went into bringing this original Venda homestead back to life and creating one of the most unique lodges in the world. The sculpted figures, by artists Noria Mabasa and Thomas Kubayi, greet you around every corner; mermaids, maidens and crocodiles emerging from the clay walls.

There’s a choice of standard rooms, luxury suites and lavish suites at the Venda Art Lodge

Or you can take Hamansha Lodge (3 rooms) on an exclusive use basis.

Standard Rooms

There are five en-suite African style huts that open up to sculpted sun-baked courtyards. Intimate and unique, Noria’s sculptures and the rondavels restored on their original footprint give you an opportunity to experience art and village life in a ‘one of a kind’ live-in gallery.

Luxury Suites

The two luxury suites, Mwedzi and Duvha, offer a romantic and secluded stay with private plunge pools and patios overlooking the animals grazing on the plain below. The two suites are in close proximity to the standard rooms and facilities but well hidden away in beautiful bush surroundings to ensure complete privacy. The luxury suites have King size beds (can be converted to twins), en-suite luxury bathrooms with freestanding baths, indoor and outdoor showers.

Lavish Suites

The three lavish suites, Naledzi, Tadulu and Miloro, are our flagship suites. These secluded luxury units with king-size bedrooms, wood burning fireplaces, plunge pools and wraparound decks provide a truly lavish experience. African artworks by Thomas Kubayi surprise you at every turn. There are mermaids basking in the outdoor showers and an angel overlooking the pathway.. Sandblasted glass scatters stars across the floors and a myriad of fish, leguaans and turtles colour the floors. Elegantly furnished and contemporary, these suites are sure to delight every guest.
