Highlights of Sanctuary Chief’s Camp
- Private concession within the Moremi Game Reserve
- One of the finest game lodges in Botswana
- High quality of rangers and guides
- Luxurious tents
Sanctuary Chief’s Camp, in the Okavango Delta, lies on the western side of Chief’s Island in the exclusive Mombo concession of the Moremi Game Reserve – an area of unsurpassed predator sightings with a breeding pack of wild dog nearby, plenty of lion, cheetah and leopard – and white rhino too.
The luxurious Chief’s Camp is tucked under a shady grove of jackalberry trees, overlooking a seasonally flooded plain which offers excellent game-viewing without you even leaving the camp. This is a beautiful, remote lodge with dining/sitting area, library and curio shop.
The attractive raised pool deck is used for starlit dining and daytime game spotting. Chief’s Camp is quite unusual in Botswana for having a resident spa therapist. A range of spa treatments is offered in their poolside spa sala during the dry Botswana winter months. Twelve luxurious and secluded tented suites offer some of the finest accommodation in Botswana – spacious, light and airy, with polished wooden floors, solid wooden furniture, overhead fans and luxurious bathrooms. Your private viewing deck gives you the opportunity to view the game on the luxuriant floodplain without the need to stir from the comfort of your tented suite.
Activities at Sanctuary Chief’s Camp
Game activities are predominantly land-based at Chief’s Camp given the camp’s location with the Moremi Game Reserve. Ancient mopane forests, lagoons, islands, seasonal floodplains and open grassland act as a glorious game sanctuary on the slightly higher ground of Moremi. The rangers of Chief’s Camp are experienced and passionate about the area and this contributes to the excellent safari experience.
An added bonus is that mokoro excursions through the narrow channels of the Okavango delta departing from just in front of the lodge, are on offer during the seasonal flood aiding in the perfect safari holiday.
Sanctuary Chief’s Camp lies within the Moremi Game Reserve, a national park, which means that night drives and bush walks are not allowed by the park authorities. Though the game-viewing more than makes up for it, we recommend that you combine a Moremi camp such as Chief’s Camp with a camp in a private concession of the Delta to get the best of both worlds.
Luxury Bush PavilionsThe twelve guest pavilions are nestled in a jackalberry and sausage tree woodland that is characteristic of the area. Each guest pavilion boasts an indoor and outdoor shower, a spacious seating area and a private game viewing deck overlooking the surrounding floodplains of the Okavango Delta. Sumptuous four-poster beds with generously draped mosquito nets and traditional ceiling fans also feature and for your convenience, the rooms are equipped with a hairdryer, ceiling fan, room safe, emergency intercom and minibar.
