Luangwa Safari House is about as exclusive as it gets in Zambia! Designed by Neil Rocher, this impressive private villa is taken on an exclusive use basis by one party. It sits gracefully on the edge of a lagoon frequented by large herds of elephants, impalas and giraffes searching for water. Behind is the tranquil backdrop of the Chindeni hills.

Luangwa Safari House is a beautifully designed double story villa with a relaxed luxury feel and innate style. This sense of luxury is immediately present as you walk through its imposing wooden doors opening out into a double volume sitting and dining area. There’s a great sense of light and grace as the entire front of the house is open to the wilderness and wildlife of South Luangwa. You walk out onto a large raised terrace with swimming pool. Beyond the deck is a secluded reading area underneath the shade of a massive mahogany tree with stunning lagoon views. The lagoon attracts game throughout the year. During the dry season, you may find yourselves enjoying lunch on the deck surrounded by up to 80 elephants splashing around and enjoying the cool lagoon waters.

Accommodation at Luangwa Safari House

With four large en suite bedrooms, it is ideal for families or a group of friends seeking a little privacy in the South Luangwa. Two bedrooms are on the ground floor and two are upstairs (with two fairly steep floating staircases) on either side of the living area. Every bedroom is subtly decorated to mimic the elements – water, earth, wind and fire. Each has its own ensuite glamorous bathroom, four poster beds and private veranda to soak in the views.

This magnificent private house is the ultimate in luxury combined with a very welcome and friendly feel. It is completely self contained with its own staff (hostess, ranger and chef), allowing you complete exclusivity and flexibility. You are free to, not only design your own menus, but also your game-viewing rhythm. Your private guide will tailor activities around your personal preferences.

Safari activities

Luangwa Safari House is open all year round. Game viewing takes place on foot or on day and night drives. In the green season boating safaris add another dimension and you can also visit the local Kawaza village. This area of the South Luangwa National Park is famous for its leopard and giraffe sightings. Mfuwe Airport is approx 45 minutes transfer time.

Families (with children over 7 years) are very welcome at South Luangwa House. The staff are fun, friendly and competent. The safari activities will be individually tailored to your family taking your children's ages and temperament into account. See More Information for more on family safaris in Zambia

We recommend combining Luangwa Safari House with Chongwe River House in the Lower Zambezi National Park and Sindabezi Island near Victoria Falls.

Children at Luangwa Safari House

Early mornings aren’t suited to all children and if they wish to stay behind whilst you enjoy a quiet game drive, this is no problem at all. Around the house, your host or hostess is on hand assist with the children. They can perhaps bake cookies with the chef for afternoon tea, make lions or elephants heads from papier mache, play games or simply have a slow morning with a cooked breakfast and a gentle start.

Safari packs are given to each child with quizzes, animal books etc which is a great memory of their Safari. Child minding is on offer and they are happy to prepare the type of meals that your children enjoy. They will even provide a packed dinner for them to have at sundowners in the park if they need to eat earlier.

Please note that the swimming pool, for cooling off during the heat of the day, is NOT fenced.
