So central location of Kafunta River Lodge in the Luangwa Valley allows you to explore the whole Luangwa region.

The Lodge:

In the centre of the lodge’s main area is a tall old semi-evergreen wild mango tree, providing shade on sunny Zambian days. The extensive and spacious lounge, bar and multiple wooden dining decks above the waterhole, all thatched in a traditional African style, provide guests with undisturbed views over the plain.

Next to the bar is the infinity pool and the only natural hot tub in the Luangwa Valley. This unique hot tub is fed from a completely natural geothermal source on Kafunta’s grounds. The water is very therapeutic and has an average temperature of 37 degrees.

The Accommodation:

At Kafunta River Lodge, each of the 8 luxury private chalets overlook the game rich flood plain. The chalets have been built on raised wooden platforms and have thatched roofs. They are tastefully decorated with African style and charm. All 8 chalets are spacious with a sitting area and private veranda. An en-suite bathroom with two basins, walk-in mosquito net and ceiling fan are just some of the amenities in these luxury rooms.

Activities at Kafunta:

Kafunta River Lodge has its own pontoon 5 minutes from the lodge. This adventurous river crossing takes you into the more remote areas of the South Luangwa National Park. They are also a short game drive from the main gate giving access to the abundant game viewing of the Mfuwe sector. The early morning hours are ideal for a game drive or alternatively a walking safari can be arranged. During your afternoon game drive you stop for sundowners in the bush to fully experience the African sunsets.

Kafunta has a tree viewing deck that is situated along the river bed, providing a beautiful bird’s eye view of the plains and the Luangwa River. This deck is ideally situated for general game and bird viewing. The new photographic hide offers guests great photo opportunities right from the lodge. Located under the deck. So it’s a great place to relax during the day and watch the game at the lodge and waterhole.

The Fig Tree Spa is tucked away in a quiet and private corner of the Kafunta property. The little hut is open towards the plain and surrounded by indigenous bush that provides cool shade. A small gym hut is now also available.
