Lion Camp

CEDARBERG RATING

Overview

Lion Camp is situated in the northern most part of the South Luangwa National Park. It's prime location, well away from the park gates, allows it to offer you an authentic safari experience with fewer vehicles and plentiful game viewing. The lagoon in front of the lodge draws in game right to your doorstep so you need not go far in search of animals. Lion Camp is easily accessible by daily flights from Lusaka to Mfuwe followed by a 3 hour transfer to the camp, most of which is a game drive through the South  Luangwa National Park.

Highlights

  • Lion Camp is located on the banks of an oxbow lagoon, attracting a variety of game
  • Secluded location in the northern corner of South Luangwa Park
  • Offers day and night game drives and walking safaris
  • Flexible game-viewing programme, due to the high ratio of vehicles to guest tents.

Accommodation

All tents have a 'tree house' like design and are raised above the Luangwa valley floor with magnificent panoramic views of the oxbow lagoon. You can roll up the netting to open up the room to further enjoy the expansive views from the comfort of your room.

There are eight Luxury tents and two Deluxe tents with thatched roofs and canvas walls. Both are of similar design but the Deluxe tents are larger with a bigger deck and outdoor bath making them ideal for families or honeymoon couples.

Activities

There are generally two activities a day and game drives, special interest safaris, walking safaris, bird watching are all on offer.  Qualified guides will take you out on day or night game drives in open Landrovers and walking safaris are accompanied by an armed scout and expert guide.

Old rondavels have been re-purposed to good effect; one housing a bush gym and another a photographic studio for guests.

Luxury Suites

With incredible game viewing literally on our doorstep, all our luxury suites have been designed to maximise the views.

Our 8 luxury suites have canvas walls and a thatch roof. During the day, the netting at the front of the tent can be tied back to access a shaded private deck directly from the bedroom. Bathrooms are off to the side to provide more privacy, whilst ensuring an unobstructed view out.

Evening breeze cooling units have been installed for maximum comfort in the hotter months. These units along with the rest of the camp are solar-powered.

Deluxe Suites

Our two private deluxe suites maximise the prime locations at the end of the camp. They are similar in design to the luxury suites but are larger and have secluded outdoor bathtubs.

The Lagoon Suite can be either twin or double and an extra bed can be added to accommodate a young child.

The Sunset Suite is our honeymoon suite. It has one king-size bed and a large wrap-around deck with 180 degree views of the plain. It is the furthest suite from the main area of the camp and its seclusion makes it perfect for honeymoon couples.
