Overview
This glorious 12-night luxury train journey on Rovos Rail Golf Collage begins in Pretoria and winds its way through some of the most scenic parts of South Africa. The journey ends 13 days later in Cape Town. If preferred, you can also do the journey in reverse. The Rovos Rail African Collage includes activities to suit both keen golfers and non-golfers alike. So it's ideal for couples who don’t share a common passion for golf and for non-golfing train lovers. The routing, golf options and touring options are exactly the same in both directions.
On your first morning you travel on the eastern line towards the harsh eMalahleni coal-mining area and Middelburg. Then, on Day 2, the train descends the majestic Drakensberg escarpment en route to the Lowveld of the Kruger. There, an optional round of golf at the top-rated Leopard Creek awaits you (or a game drive, if you're a non-golfer)! Overnight, the train continues to the tiny kingdom of Eswatini, then south to Hluhluwe. Then, it makes its way south again through the lush cane fields, arriving in Durban in the late afternoon.
After the option of another round of golf in Durban, the train steadily ascends the scenic escarpment through the Valley of a Thousand Hills. The next day, you will transfer to Spionkop Lodge to hear the tale of the Battle of Spionkop, or to Champagne Sports Resort for a round of golf. Then the train visits the Golden Gate Highlands National Park, afterwards travelling to Bloemfontein. The train then heads back to the coast and Addo Elephant Park in the Eastern Cape.
With an early departure the train then travels to the spectacular Garden Route to Knysna for an overnight stay at Fancourt. On the second last day, you visit Oudtshoorn in the Little Karoo, before continuing towards the scenic Cape Winelands. Your 13-day tour ends at Cape Town Rovos Rail Station.
Seven rounds of golf are included at Leopard Creek (or White River Country Club/Mbombela), Nkonyeni or Royal Swazi in Eswatini, Beachwood or Durban Country Club in Durban, Champagne Sports Resort, Humewood Golf Course, as well as Pezula/Simola and Fancourt in the Garden Route.
