From the rugged beauty of the Drakensberg escarpment and the wildlife-rich Kruger and Hluhluwe Game Reserves to the golden beaches of Durban, the route showcases South Africa’s natural diversity. Continue through the Battlefields of KwaZulu-Natal and the Golden Gate Highlands, before reaching the Addo Elephant National Park and the lush Garden Route of the Cape. An overnight stay at Fancourt precedes the journey’s grand finale; the Cape Winelands and finally Cape Town, where your adventure concludes in timeless style.
African Collage Route Description
On your first morning you travel on the eastern line through the eMalahleni coal-mining area and Middelburg. Then the train descends the majestic Drakensberg escarpment en route to the Lowveld of the Kruger. There, an optional round of golf at the top-rated Leopard Creek awaits you (or a game drive, if you're a non-golfer). Overnight, the train continues to the tiny Kingdom of Eswatini, then south to the wildlife-rich Hluhluwe Game Reserve.
Then, it makes its way south again through the lush cane fields, arriving in Durban in the late afternoon. After the option of another round of golf in Durban, the train steadily ascends the scenic escarpment through the Valley of a Thousand Hills. The next day, you will transfer to Spionkop Lodge to hear the tale of the Battle of Spionkop, or to Champagne Sports Resort for a round of golf. Then the train visits the Golden Gate Highlands National Park, afterwards travelling to Bloemfontein. The train then heads back to the coast and Addo Elephant Park in the Eastern Cape.
With an early departure the train then travels to the spectacular Garden Route to Knysna for an overnight stay at Fancourt. On the second last day, you visit Oudtshoorn in the Little Karoo, before continuing towards the scenic Cape Winelands. Your 13-day tour ends at Cape Town Rovos Rail Station.
