Romantic South Africa begins with some relaxation and rejuvenation time in the beautiful Drakensberg Escarpment area for a couple of nights. Once you are ready to face the early morning game drives, you head off to one of South Africa’s prime private game reserves. Next it’s a flight down to the Cape for 2 nights on the beach followed by relaxing in the Cape Winelands and ending with the highlight of Cape Town.

Day 1

Relax and rejuvenate for 2 nights in the Drakensberg Escarpment, B&B

You begin your holiday with some relaxation and rejuvenation time in the beautiful Drakensberg Escarpment area for a couple of nights. On arrival at Kruger International Airport, you are met and transferred by road to Summerfields Rose Retreat in the Drakensberg escarpment area. The Drakensberg escarpment provides welcome relaxation after the excitement of a wedding. This area of tumbling streams and waterfalls amongst indigenous woodland and forest plantations provides scenic drives, relaxing walks, horse riding and soft adventure activities…

Summerfields Rose Retreat is nestled on 100ha in a secluded valley near Hazyview. It is set on Summerfields Rose Farm, famous for its export quality hybrid tea roses and macadamia nuts (which are also available for sale at the farm). Summerfields River Lodge has 12 exclusive tented suites under a canopy of Jackalberry trees, surrounded by nature with the sounds of cascading water amplified by a choir of bird calls and the occasional snort of a hippo. Each luxurious suite ensures total privacy.

We haven’t arranged any tours as many people just want to chill, but we can arrange a private tour of the area or indeed for a rental car to be delivered if you wish to explore under your own steam.

Day 3

Transfer to Private Kruger Reserve for 3 nights on Safari, Fully Inclusive

Once you are ready to face the early morning game drives, you are transferred by road to one of South Africa’s prime private game reserves which shares open borders with the Kruger National Park.

The Kapama & Timbavati Game Reserves in South Africa offer some of the finest Big Five game-viewing in South Africa. Enjoy game drives in the early morning and evening to enjoy game viewing when the animals are most active. Game drives are conducted by experienced rangers and Shangaan trackers in open 4×4 vehicles, with excellent photographic opportunities. You traverse over 18,000 hectares of the finest big game country, with lion, leopard, elephant, rhino and buffalo thriving alongside giraffe, zebra and a variety of antelope. Nocturnal animals, including the big cats, are regularly sighted on night drives. Bird watching is wonderful, with various eagles, owls, francolins, kingfishers, rollers and weavers among the over 300 recorded species.

Kapama Karula in the Kapama Game Reserve offers some of the loveliest romantic suites in the Kruger, with superb game-viewing to match.

OR Simbavati Hilltop Camp has one of the most stunning settings of any safari lodge in the Timbavati . This luxury tented camp enjoys a hillside setting with wide angle views over bush and the distant Drakensberg mountains from every tented suite as well as the main lodge. Each of the air-conditioned tented suites has a bedroom, separate en suite bathroom as well as an alfresco shower. The public areas offers a spacious lounge, bar, dining area on the deck and an expansive deck with breathtaking views. There’s a stylish rimflow pool for relaxing during the heat of the day.

Day 6

Fly down to the Cape and then head to Hermanus for 2 nights, Full Board

Today after a final early morning game drive, you are transferred back to Hoedspruit Airport for your flight to Cape Town (flight not included in the tour price). This flight is direct on selected days and via Johannesburg on other days.

On arrival at Cape Town, you collect your rental car (Hyundai Tuscan / Toyota Rav SUV 2×4 or similar) and drive to Hermanus where you spend 2 nights (1½ hours drive).

The cosmopolitan fishing village and resort of Hermanus offers all year round charm with stunning sandy beaches, coastal walking trails, some of the finest wine estates in South Africa, beautiful fynbos vegetation and spring flowers. The more adventurous can even experience shark cage diving amongst the sharks at nearby Gansbaai.

The southern coast boasts some of the finest land-based whale-watching in the world between July and early December, when the Southern Right Whales come right into the bays to give birth. Enthralling sightings are a daily occurrence with spectacular breaches and whale song.

Birkenhead House is a sophisticated boutique hotel decorated to reflect the beauty of its coastal setting, and is adorned with rare maritime antiques and impressive art works. No expense has been spared in making Birkenhead House the ultimate coastal retreat.

Day 8

Drive to the Cape Winelands for 2 nights, B&B

The Cape Winelands is an exquisite area of rocky mountains overlooking green vineyards. Oak avenues lead to elegant Cape Dutch wine estates and some of the most charming towns and villages in South Africa. The pleasure of this region is the enjoyment of the good life: appreciating the wine and the unique Cape architecture; savouring long, lazy meals at one of the many excellent restaurants; or browsing in the craft studios and art galleries.

Babylonstoren is an ultra-stylish and exclusive wine estate close to Franschhoek. It has a tranquil setting amongst vineyards and fruit orchards, with an enchanting walled garden and an estate to explore on foot or on mountain bike. Highly recommended!

Day 10

Head to Cape Town for 3 nights, B&B

Cape Town is one of the most beautifully situated cities in the world. Cradled by Table Mountain, it has immense charm and historical interest whilst its unique cultural blend; part African, part European and part Asian, makes for a cosmopolitan dining experience. Take the cable car or walk up Table Mountain, visit the colourful Malay quarter or meander through the wonderful Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens. Browse through the vibrant Greenmarket Square, head out to Robben Island by boat or simply relax on the beach. When you want to range further, the Cape Peninsula offers one of the finest coastal drives in Africa to the Cape of Good Hope. Here you might see whales breeching just off the bay or quirky penguins on Boulder’s beach.

52 de Wet is an contemporary boutique hotel perched on the hillside below Lion’s Head in the sophisticated Bantry Bay area of Cape Town. This exclusive area is reminiscent of the Italian Riviera – with glamorous houses cascading down to the Atlantic Ocean below.

Alternatively Camps Bay Retreat offers a range of stunning suites in both a contemporary wing and the original villa with terraced lush gardens going down to the beach.
