This much-loved 10-night privately guided journey is perfect for travellers who prefer not to drive themselves, yet still want an immersive, seamless exploration of some of South Africa’s most celebrated regions. It blends the coastal beauty of the Cape with the wildlife-rich wilderness of the Greater Kruger – with the comfort and insight of a dedicated private guide in Cape Town.

This Cape & Kruger private tour begins with four nights in Cape Town, enjoying curated private tours of the city, the dramatic Cape Peninsula and the Winelands. Note that we would be happy to swap out any of these classic tours for some of our active or special interest options.

Continue along the Southern Coast towards Hermanus for two tranquil nights at Mosaic Lagoon Lodge, where you can enjoy the beaches, lagoon and whale-watching (in season) that this coastal interlude is famous for.

Return to Cape Town to fly to the greater Kruger Park and then settle in for four unforgettable nights on safari in the Timbavati Private Game Reserve. Your stay at Simbavati River Lodge — or an upgraded option such as Hilltop Lodge — offers exceptional Big Five game-viewing in a private reserve renowned for its photographic opportunities and wilderness atmosphere.

On arrival in Cape Town you are met by your private guide and transferred to your hotel. The rest of the day is at leisure for you to relax and settle in.

Cape Town is one of the most beautifully situated cities in the world and you have plenty of time to explore it. Cradled by Table Mountain, it has immense charm and historical interest. Its unique cultural blend makes for a cosmopolitan dining experience. Take the cable car or walk up Table Mountain, visit the colourful Malay quarter or meander through the wonderful Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens. Browse through the vibrant Greenmarket Square, head out to Robben Island by boat or simply relax on the beach. When you want to range further, the Cape Peninsula offers one of the finest coastal drives in Africa to the Cape of Good Hope. Here you might see whales breeching just off the bay or quirky penguins on Boulder’s beach.

Enjoy your first day with an incredible orientation tour of Cape Town. We depart for a comprehensive city orientation tour starting with a trip up Table Mountain by cable car for a panoramic view of the whole of the Cape Peninsula. There is time for a short walk at the summit to admire the incredible scenery.

Our full day private Cape Peninsula tour includes a scenic coastal drive along Chapmans Peak; the Cape of Good Hope National Park and Cape Point; viewing the Penguins at Boulders Bay; Simonstown historical naval base and ends with the magnificent Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens.

Head off to the historic heart of South Africa’s wine industry. Explore Stellenbosch and walk down the canal-lined avenues, in the shade of giant oak trees and beautifully preserved historic buildings. Travel over the Helshoogte Pass to the town of Franschhoek, historically dating back to the 17th century, to when the French Huguenots first arrived.

Enjoy a wine tasting before sampling the culinary delights at one of the many award-winning Franschhoek restaurants (lunch not included in cost). Onward to Paarl, one of the Cape’s first farming districts. The town is set at the foot of the cluster of remarkable granite domes from which it takes its name.

Today you leave Cape Town and travel onto the Southern Cape. The southern coast boasts some of the finest land-based whale-watching in the world between July and early December, when the Southern Right Whales come right into the bays to give birth. Enthralling sightings are a daily occurrence with spectacular breaches and whale song. En route to Mosaic Farm, you can enjoy sight-seeing in Hermanus and perhaps whale-watching in season (July to November). Alternatively you could stop en route in the Winelands to visit Vegelegen Wine Estate with its fine gardens, Cape Dutch homestead and start of the art wine cellar…

Lagoon Lodge on Mosaic Private Sanctuary is an enchanting lodge on the edge of Hermanus lagoon set in an ancient Milkwood grove. Its main lodge, Lagoon Lodge, has a spectacular setting with views overlooking a bird sanctuary and the beautiful Overberg Mountains. The five shady, spacious en-suite rooms are built with safari-style canvas under thatch on the lagoon’s edge. Each has an en suite bathroom with large oval bath tub and outdoor shower as well as a wooden deck overlooking Hermanus lagoon. Wooden boardwalks through the Milkwood grove take you to the main sitting area where sundowners and meals take place by the huge fireplace in winter or on the deck under the trees in summer. Here you can enjoy the magnificent sunset over the lagoon. Lagoon Lodge at Mosaic Farm has the feel of an African safari lodge with its glass fronted central building and use of natural materials.

Mosaic Farm offers a range of activities including quad bike nature rides, 4×4 trips to deserted golden beaches, kayaking on the lagoon and walks.

Nature enthusiasts will discover the amazing Cape Floral Kingdom at Mosaic Farm with its magnificent fynbos, birds and insects. You can explore the 933ha reserve on foot, mountain bike, quad bike or kayak. Hop onto the open 4×4 vehicle for a sundowner excursion and discover fynbos, birds and deserted beaches in search of Southern Right Whales.

Note: If you have time, we strongly recommend a third night at Mosaic. Then you could take part in shark cage diving or whale-watching by boat. (These are both extra activities not included in the lodge price)

This morning you are transferred back to Cape Town in time for the direct flight from Cape Town to Kruger International Airport (NOT included in this tour price). On arrival you are met by one of our guides and transferred to Tanamera where the rest of the day is at leisure.

You travel via the Drakensberg Escarpment, a beautiful area of tumbling streams and waterfalls amongst indigenous woodland and forest plantations where you enjoy a scenic tour of the Blyde River Canyon visiting the Three Rondavels, Bourne’s Luck potholes and God’s Window.

Then head into the bush for 4 nights on safari in the Greater Kruger Park (as Simbavati River Lodge offers a 4 for 3 special). You stay at the game-rich Simbavati River Lodge.

Simbavati River Lodge has a stunning riverside setting in the heart of the Timbavati Private Game Reserve which has open borders to the Kruger on the east. Lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo and rhino are all regularly sighted in the Timbavati, along with a host of smaller mammal species. Simbavati River Lodge offers an authentic African experience without sacrificing luxury, safety or comfort.

Your experienced game ranger is keen to share with you their extensive knowledge and love of the African bush. The day starts with an early morning game drive, followed by some time to relax, perhaps enjoying game-viewing from your deck or indulging in a spa treatment.

During the afternoon game drive you will stop for sundowners whilst watching the sun set over the awe-inspiring wilderness before enjoying a night drive. The day ends with dinner on the deck or around the boma campfire.

This morning after a final early morning game drive, you are transferred to Hoedspruit Airport in time for your onward flight to Johannesburg (flight not included).
