Overview
Tutwa Desert Lodge is a serene sanctuary in the heart of the spartan Green Kalahari. It acts as an oasis of tranquil luxury amidst the dramatic scenery of the Orange River in the Northern Cape of South Africa.
You are surrounded by the unique private wilderness of a 16 000ha reserve. A rewarding wilderness encounter features safari drives, nature paddles, birding and interactive conservation experiences. Tutwa is deeply engaged in the conservation of the area's leopards and its fauna and flora in general. The reserve has 24km of Orange River frontage; a source of life and bounty in a wild, and ancient desert.
The cool, spacious interiors of the lodge provide a serene sanctuary in this vast and untamed environment. The colours of Tutwa Lodge are organic and muted, with polished floors, high ceilings and original artworks. Natural game paths pass the lodge, and its likely antelope, giraffe, zebra and other African game may wander past.
Tutwa is an ideal escape for those looking for wildlife, birding, water and star-gazing adventure with a difference.
En route, or afterwards you can visit Augrabies Falls, which is relatively close-by. But we see this as a smarter and more exclusive way to experience the great Orange River.

Luxury Room
Five Luxury Rooms are situated on the ground floor of the lodge offering comfortable and luxurious styled accommodation overlooking the serene Green Kalahari Plains. Each suite is spaciously laid out with full en-suite bathrooms, separate bath and shower, and double-doors leading to semi-private verandahs with extensive views of the surrounding wilderness and natural landscape.
Superior Room
Two Superior Rooms are situated on the second floor of the lodge, accessible by stairs and offer comfortable and luxurious styled accommodation with your own personal balcony overlooking the waterhole and beautiful bush landscape. Between the two upstairs suites is a library and private balcony for guests use. Each suite is spaciously laid out with full en-suite bathrooms, separate bath and shower, a seating area and double-doors leading to private balconies with extensive views of the surrounding wilderness and natural landscape.
Tutwa Annex
Under a high thatched roof, the two large and spacious Tutwa Annex suites are separate from the main lodge and offers comfortable and luxurious styled accommodation with your own private deck overlooking the stunning Green Kalahari Plains. Each suite is spaciously laid out with full en-suite open plan bathrooms, separate bath and shower, a seating area and double-doors leading to your private deck with extensive views of the surrounding wilderness and natural landscape.
