Overview
Covering 10,000ha of beautiful and diverse bushveld, Kariega Game Reserve offers abundant game including lion, elephant, buffalo, rhino, hippo, hyena, giraffe, zebra and numerous antelope species. The birdlife along the river banks is excellent with martial and crowned eagles often soaring above you and the plantiff cry of the fish eagle often heard.
Kariega River Lodge is Kariega's superior four star game lodge with a stunning riverside setting. Perched on the banks of the Bushmans River, it offers spectacular river views from its ten well-appointed, spacious thatched suites.
The main lodge has a homely ambience with a large deck which overhangs the river. It offers a warm, friendly ambience with plenty of places to relax in privacy. Choose from the riverside deck, the lap pool, lounge, upstairs reading deck or upstairs TV area. Each air-conditioned suite has river views with spacious en suite bathroom with bath and shower . Plus ceiling fan, satellite TV and minibar.
Activities at Kariega
Kariega River Lodge offers a particularly good range of activities. As well as morning and afternoon open vehicle game drives, they offer river cruises on their African Queen boat. Or you can enjoy a beach visits by boat to Kenton on sea. Plus great fly-fishing from the deck, canoeing from the lodge jetty, bush walks, and a range of combinations such as a river cruise followed by a game drive. Or you can simply relax by the pool and do absolutely nothing…
So if you like the idea of combining a safari with some relaxation on the beach, it doesn’t get much better than Kariega River Lodge!

Kariega – Staff review
I really liked Kariega River Lodge (almost as much as Settlers Drift), mainly because of its stunning river setting and homely ambience. This is a place where you can kick off your shoes and really relax. I liked the fact that there are so many different places to curl up with a good book, away from other people.
Its also a great option for people who like to be active and on the go: with great fly-fishing right from the jetty, (they will even cook your fish for dinner if you want, or you can opt for catch and release) as well as canoeing and even beach visits to the golden sandy beaches of Kenton.
Its not an uber-smart lodge. If you want five star luxury and cutting edge interior design then this isn’t for you. But if you are not really into the modern contemporary style of many new game lodges, then Kariega River Lodge could be an ideal option
