Overview

The newly built and refurbished Kanonkop House is a stylish and contemporary five star boutique lodge which lies high above Knysna Lagoon. With uninterrupted views of the Knysna Heads and Lagoon, this little gem is a favourite stay on the Garden Route.

The seven bedrooms and suites are decorated in a contemporary style infused with minimalist African art. Lots of emphasis falls on texture and light. Each has hand-made paddle fans, under floor heating, music system, tea/coffee facilities, satellite TV, percale linen, original art and finely crafted furniture.

Activities

You can use the lodge's various water and sports kits to enjoy the lagoon to its full extent. With canoes available for a gentle paddle on the lagoon, a ski boat for water-skiing or a gentle sundowner cruise, and mountain bikes for a not-so-gentle ride in the forest (hilly!). Kanonkop Guest House is a member at both Fancourt and Pezula. So, golf is offered to their guests at special rates.

Kanonkop has a full time, in-house massage therapist to do massages and mani and pedis at your convenience. This can be done in the privacy of your suite, or in the Junior room if available. Or around the pool.

Luxury Garden Suites

The two luxurious garden rooms have a private terrace overlooking the swimming pool with glimpses of the Knysna lagoon beyond. However you may like to treat yourself with one of the three suites inside the main house.

Luxury Lagoon-facing Executive Suites

3 Large executive king bed suites each with full en suite bathrooms. Each room has a private balcony or deck with breathtaking views featuring the indigenous forest, Knysna Lagoon, the famous 'Heads' to the Indian Ocean beyond. The Paradise Suite occupies the entire third floor of Kanonkop. And though decorated with fine art and a king size sleigh bed, in reality the wall-to-wall views from the bedroom and the palatial bathroom provide the real decoration. The Sunbird Room, also with lagoon views, is slightly smaller with an ensuite bathroom and separate dressing room. The Forest Suite is a spacious room with a open plan bathroom (with enclosed toilet). And has views out to the indigenous forest in front of the lodge. The centerpiece of the room is a massive forest photograph behind the bed which can be back-lit so that it really feels like you are sleeping in a forest!

It has a fully stocked complimentary mini bar, tea and coffee making facility which includes an espresso machine. This suite also includes a sitting area and stunning en-suit bathroom with a view of the lagoon and Knysna Heads.

Diamond Suite

This suite is the newest addition to Kanonkop House. This room is aptly named ‘Diamond’ The room comprises of a separate bathroom which overlooks the lagoon and has a private deck. A separate toilet and shower with a His and Hers hand basin. A rain shower and slipper bath both have lagoon views. The shower and toilet doors have been sandblasted in a magnificent diamond pattern which really makes this bathroom a feature on its own. This encapsulates the diamond theme of the room beautifully. The bedroom has feature fire place, and large lounge area with a picturesque view of the lagoon. Two folding staking glass doors opens up to a private deck and seating area to our stunning indigenous garden and forest, with spectacular views.

Kanonkop House – staff review

Kanonkop is perched high above the town with views in all directions through wooded hillside. You can just drive in with easy parking and then walk through the very well-tended gardens, past the pool to the house. It is tempting to just stop at the pool...Then straight into the comfortable and modern living area with a view over the lagoon. Very clearly a family house with homely dog and family photos but very beautifully done and very welcoming. The rooms/suites are in in various buildings over the site. All the rooms are much better than the photos. Very carefully designed.
