Its tree-lined 'werf' is one of the most beautiful in the country. Indeed with its Werf restaurant, Deli and farm shop, it is a mecca for the best in country living.
In the last couple of years Boschendal has undergone a veritable transformation to become one of the most advanced organic farms in the Cape. The Boschendal philosophy advocates for a farm-to-table approach, highlighting the importance of recycling and sustainability. Now you can stay at stylish cottage accommodation on Boschendal Farm. Choose between two options. The Werf cottages are within walking distance of Boschendal's homestead and gardens. Whilst the Orchard Cottages and Rhodes Cottage lie a short drive away, ideal for those on a self-drive itinerary.
Boschendal Farm Accommodation - Werf & Orchard Cottages
The 7 Werf cottages are the epitome of stylish simplicity - authentic, rural yet contemporary in character. They comprise one or two bedrooms. Both have en suite bathrooms and share a sitting room and terrace. They all share a swimming pool and are next to Boschendal's exquisite gardens.
In contrast, the 14 Orchard cottages are secreted away under expansive trees, approx 2km away. These restored cottages each have two to four bedrooms. With families in mind, the cottages are stylish but not ‘precious’. It's a place where people can feel at home, without being afraid to put their feet up. Decorated in a country style, they mix re-purposed furniture with modern styling. Special design touches include the Moroccan tiles in the bathroom – chosen for their vibrant colours – and the lights. These are all handcrafted from Consol jars to evoke a ‘plaas-huis’ feel. They open onto simple gardens with a farm-style circular pool to enjoy, surrounded by orchards and glorious country views. Each has a spacious sitting area, kitchen and large veranda for outdoor living.
Nearby the historic Herbert Baker-designed Rhodes Cottage is an exclusive use homestead with five bedrooms, in the heart of the estate.
Enjoying the food and activities at Boschendal Farm
With privileged access to the entire farm, you can savour the best of farm living at Boschendal. Choose to join farm and history tours. Or explore the estate on foot or on horse-back, following trails taking you through orchards and mountain fynbos. Stop off to pick pears, plums and citrus fruits depending on the season. There are mountain biking trails, walking trails, wine tasting and cellar tours, trout fishing and swimming in the dams. Or just sit, read and relax.
Dining options include eating at the acclaimed Werf Restaurant, the farm Deli & Shop, or enjoying one of Boschendal's famous picnics. Or you can opt to have lunch or dinner baskets brought to your cottage. Alternatively pick up some fresh farm produce at the deli and prepare it back at your cottage.

Trout Cottage
Escape the bustle of daily life and reconnect with the magic of nature at Trout Cottage. With three beautifully-styled bedrooms, kitchen and dining area and cosy living room, the cottage is an ideal hideout for small groups and families.
Located in a private area of the farm, surrounded by fragrant fruit orchards and rows of pretty vines, the stunning Simonsberg Mountains are your closest neighbour. Step out the front door for walking and trail running on the slopes and mountain biking on Sugarbowl Mountain. Otherwise, enjoy a spot of R&R, Boschendal-style, and relax under the magnificent oaks surrounding the adjacent Rhodes Dam, or take a dip in the clear water.
Great for families and active groups of friends. Sleeps 4 people adults and 2 kids.
The Retreat
The Retreat is a collection of eighteen two-bedroom self-catering cottages situated in a far corner of the farm with exquisite mountain views.
This secluded venue has a carefree and relaxed atmosphere and is ideal for families or groups of friends. The cottages are about 3,5 km from the main werf, guests are advised to have their own transport. Bring your mountain bike or walking shoes to explore the farm paths, mountainside trails and single track.
If you are travelling with children take a look at our edu play centre - The Tree House, where free range kids learn all about farm life. The fully supervised daily programme is available complimentary for accommodation guests aged 4 - 14yrs.
The venue has a state of the art indoor screening room, dining room & lounge and a variety of meeting rooms making it an ideal space for conferences, team building and strategic executive breakaways. A large lawn provides the opportunity to add extra tented accommodation, ideal for outdoor events and festivals.
Rhodes Cottage
This historic cottage, built by renowned architect, Sir Herbert Baker, has been redecorated to give guests a chance to experience a piece of South African history and walk in the footsteps of Cecil John Rhodes.
Set under the imposing outline of the Simonsberg mountain, the cottage has magnificent views over the Boschendal Estate and the valley. The cottage is about 2 km from the main Werf. A large verandah, outside dining under the oaks and an eco friendly swimming pool add to the relaxed feel of the property, which is a South African National Heritage Site.
Sleeps up to 6 people in the cottage and 4 people in the garden annex.
Mountain Villa
Stunning six-bedroom villa at the foot of the Simonsberg Mountain with views of the entire Franschhoek Valley. This property is perfect for a luxurious, adventurous or relaxing family get-away. The villa has a fully equipped kitchen, two lounges and large terrace that wraps around the whole property. Set up to entertain with outside bar area, braai, pizza oven and large swimming pool. Beautifully kept gardens, lawns and private lake.
