Overview
Hôtel 20 Degres Sud (or 20 Degrees Sud) is a small luxury boutique hotel on the Mauritius North coast. It is situated in a beautifully secluded spot not far from the Pointe aux Canonniers at the mouth of the white sandy beach of Grand Baie. With just 36 rooms, 20 Degres Sud is a small and intimate hotel so guests may enjoy a more attentive and personalised service than you might get at other larger hotels. It is also worth mentioning that small boutique hotels like these are rare in Mauritius so this is a little gem and perfect if you are looking for somewhere with more charm and character. Hôtel 20 Degres Sud is unique in it's classical colonial old style charm, first noticed by a very imposing grand wooden door entrance and continues this theme through the rest of the hotel.
There are 4 room types from the Charm rooms to the Austral Suites. Each room has a slightly different decor but all are stylishly decorated with furnishings from Belgian interior decorator Flamant Home Interiors and carefully selected antiques. Rooms are air-conditioned and have a beautiful terrace from which you can sit back with a refreshing drink and watch the sun set on the ocean as you listen to the gentle swaying of the coconut trees. Each bathroom is equipped with an old style bath, a separate shower and two wash basins built into a beautiful wooden surround.
Facilities
The diving club, the "Mascareignes Plongées" (Mascarene Diving), was established in February 2005 and became the first Nitrox diving centre to be recognised by the authorities. The team here will be delighted to share their underwater passion and introduce you to all the flora and fauna of the Mascarene Islands including giant morays, carangues, rays, sharks, turtles and dolphins. Just 5 minutes from the hotel are many shipwrecks and coral reefs just waiting to be explored.
A great feature of your stay at 20 Degres Sud is the chance to have a special dinner on the M/S Lady Lisbeth, a 17m vintage boat, the oldest motor boat on Mauritius. Built in 1929, the boat has since been restored to its former glory and really does give guests that added 'wow' factor to a special occasion they want to celebrate.
