Review of Xudum Okavango Delta Lodge

In contrast they call Xudum Lodge “The Man” – all dark woods and charcoal/grey/black colours throughout. Xudum comprises huge rooms with sitting area inside and outside, then a level down to the bathroom with a doorway out to your private plunge pool. Nice touches include a day bed and an upstairs sala. (unfortunately no overnight sleepouts are now allowed as there is a resident leopard around). They are planning on lightening it up a bit by adding some African colours such as burnt orange/red/yellows. They are also planning on extending the decks and redoing the swimming pool area to three tiers. The top tier will have tables and chairs, the second tier will have the pool with sun loungers and the last lower tier will have a beach feel with the sand and umbrellas.

Xudum is one of the few Okavango camps with air-conditioning as well as a roof fan. Generator power so as with Nxabega, it all gets switched off 1 hour after the last guest goes to bed then back on 1 hour prior to wake up (around 4/5am) depending on season. The concession’s airstrip is quite near Xudum so they would usually transfer you a short distance to the boats and then you boat into the lodge. However in the dry season (late October/November) this may be a road transfer all the way…
