Kite-surfing & Learning to Kite-surf in Langebaan

Historically, Langebaan on the Cape West Coast used to be known as one of the best places for windsurfing in South Africa. However, the new craze is for kite-surfing and yet again, Langebaan Lagoon has emerged as one of the best places to learn this amazing sport.

Langebaan on the West Coast has several things going for it. The lagoon receives the wind conditions needed for successful kite-surfing. It provides enough shelter and thus calmer water to be the perfect training ground. The water, though not warm, is considerably warmer than the Atlantic Ocean. It’s also only just over an hour from Cape Town. So, you can combine a few days here with time enjoying the mother city.

There are several professional companies that offer 1 to 3 day group courses, multi-day kite-surfing beginner lessons, 1 to 3 day private courses, as well as kite-surfing equipment rental. There’s a wealth of accommodation on offer in Langebaan, mostly fairly moderate, as well as restaurants and shops. If one of you fancies learning to kite-surf, but not the other, there are plenty of other watersports on offer on the lagoon, as well as sheltered sandy spots for relaxing. We just can’t promise warm water…

There is an option for group beginner lessons or private beginner lessons.
