Overview

  • Africa’s most elegant game-viewing on a luxury riverboat safari
  • Perfect way to avoid the rather busy Chobe river area
  •  Choice of 2 or 3 night river safaris
  •  Range of on and off the boat activities

Why not sit back and enjoy one of the richest areas of wildlife in Africa from the luxury of your own cabin aboard the sumptuous Zambezi Queen? The world famous Chobe National Park with its teeming wildlife - 120,000 elephants and over 400 species of birds makes this an exceptional wildlife safari experience. The Zambezi Queen allows you to enjoy Chobe, yet away from the somewhat crowded Chobe river front area.

The Zambezi Queen operate three river safaris each week, with departures on Mondays (2 nights), Wednesdays (2 nights) and Fridays (3 nights). The first night is spent on the banks of the Chobe River, the second night ± 20km away on the banks of the river near a cultural village. If you are opting for the 3 night itinerary, the third night will also be spent at another point along the river, before motoring back early on the last morning.

Accommodation on the Zambezi Queen

Choose between 8 suites and 6 master suites on the Zambezi Queen. All are light and airy with privxze beds (can be divided into twin beds), furnished to the highest level. En suite's bathroom consist of shower, toilet, mirror, vanity basin with hairdryer. Two of the four Master Suites have their own private deck with outdoor furniture. The remaining suites having superb panoramic views with doors and windows on two sides. All have private balconies, full length sliding shutters for privacy and protection from the sun, sliding mosquito net doors, fans and safes. Four of the suites have a sleeper couch to accommodate a child.

On entering the first of three decks on the Zambezi Queen, you'll find an air-conditioned reading room, DVD player with wildlife documentaries and computer facilities. The remainder of the first and second levels contains the suites. The top deck is the entertainment area and includes an open-plan lounge area with great views, well appointed bar and the dining room. The dining room has unobstructed views on three sides to maximize the picturesque African wildlife surroundings.

There are two deck areas, one aft which provides a shaded seating area and the other on the fore deck, which has a small swimming pool and sun bathing deck.

Accommodation on the Zambezi Princess

The Zambezi Queen has now been joined by three Zambezi Princess boats which are smaller boats with more manoeuvrability. Though not quite as luxurious in decor as the 'mother ship', they have an attractive light decor and the big plus of being able to navigate further upstream and into smaller side channels, getting closer to the wildlife.

Each Zambezi Princess boat has 5 en suite cabins all with air-conditioning. As with the Zambezi Queen, they have smaller boats to allow you to enjoy the river in many ways.

The arrival of the three smaller boats also means that they can more easily accommodate clients speaking different languages.

Activities from the boat
Enjoy water-based game viewing on smaller boats (often only taking 2-6 people) which enables close-up viewing of the wildlife so that the animals don't feel threatened. Other activities include sundowner cruises, star gazing with your guide, tiger and bream fishing in season (on catch and release basis) as well as bird watching.

Activities off the boat
Land-based half day 4x4 game viewing in the Chobe National Park (Zambezi Queen has its own guides, all of whom are trained by Garth Thompson, world-renowned guiding expert), " Beach-picnic" on the banks of the river or "Cultural tour" of a local village.
