Xigera Camp, (pronounced kee-je-ra), lies in one of the most beautiful parts of the Okavango Delta on Paradise Island, a private concession close to the Moremi Game Reserve. It has permanent water year-round, yet there are lots of large islands in the area that hold good concentrations of animals, including the rare sitatunga and red lechwe, and wonderful waterbirds, eagles and kingfishers. This means that Xigera is the perfect land and water activity camp, with game drives, walking safaris, mokoro and boating trips for game-viewing on offer throughout the year. Please note that the game drives are very limited at the peak flood time as it the camp is completely surrounded by water at that point.
Nestled in a magnificent riverine forest, Xigera Camp offers nine classically furnished tented rooms in wood and canvas. They are elevated on wooden decks offering views of a seasonal floodplain and small lagoon. The rooms are stylish and comfortable, with fans, en suite bathroom and an outdoor shower under the African stars. All offer a superb view of the seasonal floodplain and are linked by walkways to the main public areas.
The thatched lodge has a lounge, dining area, bar, viewing deck and plunge pool. Dinner can also be taken under the stars in a traditional African boma. You may be treated to close-up sightings of lion or leopard when using the footbridge connecting the islands. A sandpit records the tracks of nightly camp visitors, which often include leopard, lion and hyena.
Xigera Camp is a particular delight for bird-watchers with pel’s fishing owl, african skimmer, slaty egret, wattled crane and a host of eagles, vultures and kingfishers to be seen. The abundance of game includes red lechwe, antelope, lion, leopard and the highest density of the rare sitatunga antelope in the Okavango Delta.
