Sanctuary Sussi & Chuma

CEDARBERG RATING

Luxury

Overview

  •  Romantic setting on banks of the Zambezi river close to Victoria Falls
  •  Stylishly refurbished to offer some of the most romantic accommodation in Victoria Falls
  •  Ten treehouses built into giant ebony trees

Sanctuary Sussi & Chuma was named after two of Dr David Livingstone's faithful friends. And it consists of an exclusive, upmarket lodge, Sussi Lodge, and two private Chuma Houses. All take full advantage of their enchanting river setting on a lush, fast flowing bend in the Zambezi river.

Sussi Lodge is a lovely two storey villa. It has a spectacular shaded bar/lounge deck with an incredible birds-eye view across the Zambezi. Downstairs is a romantic open air dining area leading out to a rimflow swimming pool. This seems to merge into the river itself . And there's a spa sala right at the water's edge.

Accommodation is in 12 luxury tree-house suites. These are built into the living canopy of giant ebony trees lining the bank. Each 'house' has a private view of the Zambezi from its deck. (Though this is through the branches). And minibar, mosquito nets, ceiling fans, tea/coffee facilities and en suite bathroom with shower and bath.

Sussi & Chuma activities

A wide choice of activities adds to the attractions of this elegant, romantic African retreat. The all inclusive rate at Sussi & Chuma includes a guided tour of Victoria Falls (on the Zambian side), game drives into the National park, a cultural tour of Livingstone, early morning or sunset boat cruises on the Zambezi River, fishing and a tour of the local Zambian village. Resident wildlife, such as hippopotamus and elephant, is likely to wander through the Sussi Lodge grounds at any time, since in the National Park they have right of way!

Peaceful

"Sussi and Chuma was great – peaceful, great food, good excursions to the falls. (We also did the flight of angels). Loved the river trip on which we saw some game (with elephant very close in the river). Staff were very friendly and helpful. We loved the river views and peaceful setting "
