Rekero Camp

Overview

Rekero Camp is a 9 tented owner-managed camp situated in a dramatic location on the Talek River in the world-famous Masai Mara nature reserve. The area plays host to an extraordinary concentration and diversity of wildlife. Furthermore, it is home to one of Mother Nature’s greatest spectacles: the annual migration of millions of wildebeest and zebra across the Serengeti/Mara eco system. When the migration is not here in Kenya, there is plenty of resident game to ensure that even in low season it is still one of the finest wildlife locations in Africa, making Rekero Camp a great value option for a safari.

The Camp

Rekero Camp is enfolded in wilderness. The camp nestles under huge deciduous trees, hippos grunt in the pools below the mess deck, the fragrance of wild sage floats on the air. And guests can often watch the migration crossing the Talek River just 50 meters from the camp lawn. The camp is spread down the river from a large bend to an ancient wildebeest crossing point which sits in front of a large mess tent.

The area around the kitchen has also traditionally been a good ambush spot for the predators attracted by the herds - which makes for an interesting time for the waiters trying to serve meals. A team of safari chefs prepare fresh and tasty home-style meals for guests during their stay. Meals are enjoyed out on game drives, by the water’s edge under the shade of an African Pepper tree or by candlelight in the open mess tent higher up the bank.

Each tent is spacious with comfortable bed(s) and all enjoy river views from its own veranda. The back of the tent leads to a tented bathroom with a flush toilet, a sink and a safari shower.

Rekero Guides

Rekero’s bush guides are widely recognised to be among the best in East Africa. They undergo a long period of professional training beyond the learning of guiding skills to fully understand the complexity and demands of delivering quality service at the very highest level. Game drives in the park are all done in the company of these experts who can also share their culture in this extraordinary setting.

Attentive to our family

"Rekero was lovely and the manager Stacey very attentive to all of the families. I really enjoyed hearing more about her role, the camps and that she is now running a renovated resort in a northern conservancy. I’d like to visit, perhaps next year. This camp obviously had the best spot for watching the crossings, but the tents were less updated and spacious.   "
