Potato Bush Camp

CEDARBERG RATING

Comfortable

Overview

Potato Bush Camp lies in the heart of the Lower Zambezi National Park with a stunning panoramic view overlooking the Zambezi River. The camp nestles under mahogany, sausage, winterthorn and acacia trees which offer excellent shade. Potato Bush Camp comprises of three well-appointed canvas and rosewood safari tents and a massive two-bedroom family tent. There’s an open plan dining, bar and lounge area, which is accessed via raised timber boardwalks. (The raised boardwalks enable the camp to stay open until the end of the year, just before the heavy rains from January to March).

At Potato Bush Camp meals are sometimes served in the dining room but usually in the boma. The camp fire is well positioned under the stars, right on the edge of the river – almost the only place where you touch the ground!

Accommodation

The three safari tents are extremely spacious with en suite bathrooms with twin showers, twin basins and ball and claw bath. Large folding doors lead onto the deck with its double hammock and private plunge pool. The two-bedroom family house is a massive 21m wide ‘safari tent’ with a huge living and dining area. It is perfect for either a family or two couples travelling together with two large en suite bedrooms. Outside the expansive deck has a large plunge pool; it offers a fully stocked bar and fridge; private dining is on offer. All the tents have mosquito nets, fans and 24 hour electricity.

Potato Bush Camp activities

Activities are extremely flexible at Potato Bush Camp. Choose between game drives, night drives, bush walks, boat cruises, canoeing in the Zambezi river side channels or trying your luck at tiger fishing in the Zambezi River (on a catch and release basis).

Rooms

Safari Tent

Potato Bush’s Safari Tents are a haven of comfort and cosiness, elevated with a safari twist. Each is extremely spacious with en-suite bathrooms, twin showers and twin basins, and a full sized clawfoot bathtub. Large folding doors lead onto a private balcony where an immense hammock and private plunge pool overlook the Zambezi River. Two of the Luxury Safari Tents are furnished with king-sized beds, whilst the third is a twin room. All beds are nestled within a vast four-poster mosquito net and come equipped with a fan.

Family House

Our two-bedroom Family House is a palatial twenty-one metres wide, all the better for embracing the views of the Zambezi River. It offers a huge central living area between the bedrooms, making this an ideal location for families as well as groups of four adults. Both bedrooms have their own en-suite bathrooms with twin showers, twin basins, and a large clawfoot tub (with a view). Extra beds can be added to either room. Not to be outdone by the bedrooms, the central area boasts a wooden dining table, fully stocked bar and fridge, and a welcoming lounge area, and the balcony offers a large plunge pool.

Potato Bush Camp – Kate’s review

Though not nearly as smart as Sausage Tree, it will be smarter enough for many people and of course the activities and the river front setting is identical. The main lodge is more homely in feel, but I liked the large campfire set-up right on the water’s edge. The rooms were perfectly smart enough, but … Read More
