Highlights of Montusi Mountain Lodge
- Small friendly mountain lodge
- Stunning views of Amphitheatre mountain escarpment
- Guided daily walks on offer
In the northern Drakensberg Mountains is Montusi Mountain Lodge, a spacious luxury hotel in an idyllic setting. Montusi has one of the best uninterrupted views of the magnificent Amphitheatre – as the mountain range of the northern Drakensberg is known – which can be enjoyed from each garden suite.
This owner-run lodge offers personal and friendly service. 14 thatched garden suites offer some of the most luxurious accommodation in the Drakensberg. All suites have en-suite bathroom with shower and bath, as well as a lounge with TV, covered terrace, fireplace and spectacular views of the Drakensberg mountains. Little touches such as bathrobes, fruit bowls and a minibar stocked to your requests add to your comfort. There are also some two bedroom self-catering cottages sleeping 4 plus 2 kids which can be booked via the lodge.
The main thatched lodge has a restaurant, terrace, bar, lounge and massage treatment room. Their intimate restaurant with underfloor heating and roaring log fires in winter offers excellent local cuisine with an innovative menu. Dinners are often taken outside on the terrace in summer where you can enjoy the mountain panorama.
Activities at Montusi
This 1000 hectare resort offers guided hiking (with daily guided walks departing at 9:00 am), plenty of hiking trails with the Montusi hiking guide, horse riding for riders of all levels, fly-fishing, birding and a swimming pool. Take a swing on the flying trapeze at the All Out Adventures centre (as well as giant trampolining, abseiling and other interesting options). The famous walks of the Northern Drakensberg such as Tugela Gorge are only 15 minutes drive away. On request Montusi Mountain Lodge can arrange day hikes to the top of the Amphitheatre for an unforgettable hiking experience for those who have a head for heights (as the last ascent is via vertical metal chain ladders.)
