Kwando Lagoon Camp, overlooking the Mudumu National Park in the Namibian Caprivi strip, prides itself on having one of the most beautiful settings in Botswana.  The camp lies on the shady banks of the wild Kwando River among tall and ancient African Ebony and Marula trees, and under the watchful gaze of the resident hippos. The Kwando concession lies within the broader Linyanti Swamps adjacent to the Chobe Park.

Only 16 guests stay in this intimate and romantic luxury tented camp. Each tent looks out over the water and has private en suite facilities, including evocative open-air showers and flush toilets. There is also a pool in which to cool off during the hot months.

Game viewing

Morning and night game drives are conducted by specialist guides and trackers in open safari vehicles. This area is home to huge herds of elephant and buffalo, especially in the dry season. Large herds of elephant drink almost daily at the river bank in front of the camp, in full view of guests. These big herds attract big predators in turn - lion, hyena, leopard, cheetah and wild dog. The animals are generally very relaxed in the presence of vehicles, meaning the sightings are usually at close range. Indeed the lions of Kwando are famous for their elephant, hippo and buffalo kills.

Among the great variety of antelope species found at Kwando Lagoon Camp, the endangered sable and roan antelope are often seen. Playful spotted necked otters are commonly seen performing in the lagoon right in front of the tents. Boat cruises along the Kwando River provide excellent opportunities for birding. Specialist fly fishing and spinner fishing for Tiger fish and Bream is also on offer. Some excellent catches have been made by Kwando guests.

Please note that it is Kwando Safaris policy to have open 4x4 game drive vehicles (winter and summer) as it enhances the game viewing experience.

Families at Kwando Lagoon Camp

Kwando Safaris believes in providing opportunities for families to come on safari. This positive approach means that they recommend taking one of their specialist family safari guides who is trained and passionate about inspiring children to learn and love the wilderness.

Those families who choose to book a 'Family Safari' have their own private vehicle with their own guide and tracker who will look after them both on game drives and in camp. The guide will also accompany them throughout their stay, moving with them through the Kwando camps. Caring for the children is a full time job and continues beyond the game drive in camp, thereby allowing the parents some well earned rest!

The programmes vary for each family and are based on the ages, sexes and interests of the children. Our guides' aim is to not only keep them entertained but ensure that they learn a great deal under their expert guidance. Generally, activities include spoor castings, using spotlights, fishing, mammal, bird and plant identification, identifying night sounds and making greeting cards out of natural materials. The staff also involve the children in camp duties and they are often found preparing snacks for their game drives with the chefs! In essence, the children are either busy or asleep and always happy - busy children ultimately mean a relaxing holiday for their parents!

You may like to combine a few days at Kwando Lagoon camp in the Linyanti Swamps with a few nights at one of its sister camps in the Delta, Kwando Kwara or Kwando Little Kwara.
