Ellerman House is one of Africa's most exclusive small hotels. It’s known for its magnificent, commanding position overlooking Cape Town and the Atlantic Ocean. As well as for its refined luxury. Once the summer residence of shipping magnate Sir John Ellerman, this gracious Cape Edwardian mansion in Bantry Bay was created to offer the finer things in life. That mission continues today.
Accommodation at The Ellerman House
Ellerman House has just nine individually appointed, romantic rooms and two sumptuous suites. The decor is opulent but supremely comfortable and the extraordinary sea views shimmer from nearly every room. Terraced gardens, generous heated swimming pool, spa and gym overlooking Bantry Bay all encourage you to enjoy Ellerman House to the full.
Ellerman House is also known for its discreet hospitality. Assuring that its discerning guests have a home from home feeling of comfort and familiarity. Ellerman's guests never have to sign bills or pay for little extras. Airport transfers, complimentary transfers around the city and many drinks are included. This ethos of abundance is underpinned by superb, understated service. Informality is encouraged to ensure that guests relax and feel completely at home.
However there is nothing casual about the attention to detail, the superb cuisine, the collection of 7,500 vintage South African wines or the 250 original art works from the finest 20th century South African artists that hang on the walls. Recently some of these art works have been moved to the magnificent Ellerman Contemporary Gallery in the hotel gardens which also showcases works of young & upcoming artists.
The Ellerman Villas
The Ellerman Villas at Ellerman House have added a striking 21st century component to the classic style of the original Edwardian home. These two private havens offer the epitome of Cape style for the world's most discerning guests with endless ocean views, modern design and the latest in ‘smart house’ technology. Villa One offers three or five bedrooms. The three main villa bedrooms all have stunning sea views whilst downstairs two Spa Suites can be added to make a five bedroom residence if needed. Villa Two offers three sea view bedrooms. The villas each come with a private chef and hospitality team.
The contemporary spa combines pure indulgence with modern facilities. The spa, with its colour therapy shower, steam room, sauna, infinity pool and sumptuous treatments takes pampering to new heights - an opportunity to rejuvenate body and mind. The fully equipped gym in the gardens is on offer for the energetic (though a walk down to Clifton Beach and back up also provides a workout!)
Ellerman House lies within walking distance of the famous Clifton Beach and complimentary transfers are provided to the Waterfront, city, neaby beaches and restaurants. Ellerman House is a member of Relais & Chateaux and one of only 14 purple shields in the world.

Situated in the Ellerman House Spa, the Deluxe Spa Rooms have a front row seat to the serene pool. The two rooms feature double sliding wooden doors that open to a shared pool and deck (the pool and deck are only available tothese 2 rooms).
