Overview

Owner run and managed by Fabia Bausch & Nicolas Negre, Chem Chem Lodge exudes simple elegance. Chem Chem Lodge is situated in a 4,000ha private wildlife concession between Tarangire and Lake Manyara National Park in northern Tanzania. This in turn is part of the larger 20,00ha Chem Chem-Burunge wildlife management area (WMA). This stunning lodge’s central focus is on relaxation and letting the wildlife come to you. Enjoy experiences within the concession such as walking safaris, tracking, picnics, visiting Maasai villages, and dining under the stars as well as 4×4 daytime and evening game drives. Chem Chem Lodge’s enviable remote location enables guests to experience a highly personalised safari experience. Outside of the concession Tarangire and Lake Manyara National Parks are a short drive away and offer a rich diversity of wildlife and scenery.

Tented Safari Lodge

The permanent structure of the main lodge is designed like a landing flamingo with its two open wings. One wing is for the dining area and the outside fire place the other wing for the bar, lounge and library. It is a very light and open structure to let nature be as close as possible. A pool is hidden beneath the trees to cool off from the midday sun, and the spa offers the ultimate in relaxation.

Eight stylish and secluded tented contemporary suites reinvent the classic vintage safari. Each tent is generously spaced (100sqm) to enable guests to enjoy total privacy and stunning lake views. Your privacy is ensured with the nearest neighbour at least 80m away. Soak yourself in a luxury bath or invigorate the senses with an outdoor shower. Relax in the reading corner or meditate on a yoga mat on your private patio. Drift away in a soft breeze on the day bed whilst watching zebra or giraffe amble past... The days are long, languid. Times passes gently with the constant, slow movement of animals.

The concept of a Slow Safari was born at Chem Chem Lodge. Key is the ethos of a safari as a tangible, sensual experience beyond the confines of a vehicle, where on foot guests can see, feel, touch and smell the African bush for themselves. There are no set dinner times at Chem Chem Lodge - you have private dining and the kitchen caters for your individual needs.

Chem Chem has been joined by Little Chem as well as Forest Chem

Little Chem, closer to Tarangire

Known as the 'sunrise camp', Little Chem Chem is situated on the edge of an acacia forest. Lying closer to Tarangire National Park, the camp is surrounded by the characteristic landscape of the Tarangire with its impressive Baobab trees. It overlooks the freshwater lake, Lake Burunge. It offers an authentic slow safari with an elegant, supremely comfortable tented camp of 7 vintage tents. Little Chem Chem is all about getting as close to nature as possible, without sacrificing comfort.

Forest Chem

Forest Chem has been designed to bring people together over the warmth of a crackling camp fire. It is available on an exclusive use basis - a place for families and friends to connect with each other, with the bush and with themselves. It has 3 vintage tents and 1 family tent tent so it comfortably sleeps up to eight adults and two children.
