Overview

Baines River Camp is a friendly intimate camp just outside the Lower Zambezi National Park. This area is known for its remote wilderness areas, breathtaking scenery, abundant wildlife and kind-hearted people and all this is clearly on offer in the secluded Lower Zambezi.

This small safari lodge, named after the famous artist and explorer John Thomas Baines, lies in the Game Management Area (GMA) and offers a wide variety of activities in and around the Lower Zambezi, including game-viewing by skimmer boat, canoe or 4x4 game drives as well as angling. They offer specialized workshops such as photographic workshops, birding weeks and even fly-fishing clinics, each hosted by internationally renowned expert guides who are passionate about the African bush.

Accommodation

Set amongst giant Tamarind and Jackalberry trees, Baines River Camp offers eight colonial-style bush suites. Each suite commands a unique view over the river and comes with air-conditioning, ceiling fan, complimentary minibar, tea/coffee facilities, choice of king-size and twin beds with pure cotton linen. They are decorated with rich textures of leather, natural hardwood timbers, granite and oriental rugs to offer every comfort and luxury. The en-suite bathrooms include a walk-in shower and spacious dressing area, whilst two of our suites feature an additional outdoor shower. Make yourself comfortable on your verandah with a pair of binoculars to scan the river banks, grab a book or simply put your head back for a well deserved afternoon siesta.

Facilities at Baines River Camp

The main lodge has an open plan design with magnificent views of the Zambezi River from the Selous Bar, lounge and dining areas and from the large swimming pool. The outdoor boma-style fire place is lit every evening. There’s a small library and computer area if you need to catch up with the outside world. In room spa treatments are available in your room or on your private veranda.

The tranquil setting, the intimate atmosphere of Baines River Camp and the colonial-style Explorer Suites make the camp the ideal location for an unforgettable safari.
