Overview

Sample a mobile camping safari for as many nights as you wish

  • Mobile camp which moves every few days
  • En suite spacious tents
  • Evocative safari spirit
  • In touch with the sights, smells and sounds of the wild

Chobe Under Canvas offers you a unique opportunity to experience the exhilaration of a mobile camping safari. With the added luxury of being able to choose how many nights you stay. And also combining this mobile camp with more traditional accommodation.

Accommodation

Mobile camping in the Chobe National Park offers a great diversity of wildlife and landscapes. Well-used animal trails meander between the en suite safari tents and down to the water’s edge. Though you cannot expect the same facilities as a permanent camp. You have a fair degree of comfort at Chobe Under Canvas. Five spacious 4m x 4m Hemingway-style tents are equipped with comfortable double or twin beds, canvas wardrobe and luggage chest. Solar lighting is provided on your bedside table. Safari vehicles have been specially adapted with 12v charging units and usb ports. There's an en suite bathroom, with separate flush toilet, basin with shaving mirror and hot water jug, as well as an outdoor al fresco bucket shower with hot water delivered upon request, but always ready when you return from your game drive.

Delicious meals, cooked over the coals, and drinks are usually provided around a campfire where you can chat with your fellow guests about your day's game-viewing. There's also a central mess tent for relaxing during the day with a table with complimentary drinks, a small selection of reference books and board games.

Chobe National Park

Chobe National Park encompasses 11 700 km2 of wilderness, bordered in the north by the beautiful Chobe River, and buffered on all sides by wildlife management areas and forest reserves allowing for the free movement of game. This is one of the top wilderness reserves in the world and is home to the largest single concentration of elephant. Throughout the year, herds of buffalo and elephant can be seen drinking at the river's edge with their numbers swelling into hundreds and thousands during the dry season. Activities at Chobe Under Canvas include twice-daily 4x4 safari game drives with your rangers as well as boat trips on the nearby Chobe river.

Note: Given the more rustic standard of accommodation, we recommend that you stay at Chobe Under Canvas before heading to the private concessions in the Delta. Then you really will experience the best of both worlds.
