Overview
Amakhala Hlosi Lodge is a tranquil grassland retreat within the 7,500ha Amakhala Game Reserve of the malaria-free Eastern Cape. 'Amakhala' is named after the Xhosa word meaning 'aloe', the prolific indigenous plant found in this uniquely diverse province. This game reserve creates an ideal environment for an unforgettable safari and an intimate experience of the varied landscape, including breathtaking views of the Bushman's River.
Hlosi Lodge is known for its family-friendly accommodation. Lying along a gentle curve of hill above the river plain, the suites offer wide-open views. The main lodge includes elegant lounge and dining areas, and a lovely bar overlooking the natural ‘waterhole’ swimming pool and bird hide.
The fenced Amakhala Hlosi Lodge is frequented by remarkable wildlife coming to drink from the waterhole. Watch from the comfort of your spa bath as buffalo come to visit, or share your sun-downers at the bar with a herd of elephant drinking from the swimming pool (which forms part of the boundary).
Hlosi is known as a family-friendly game lodge with a family safari programme on offer, special kiddies game drives (for 3 to 5 years old) and various family accommodation options available (see more detail under rooms & suites)

Luxury Suite - King / Twin Bed
This suite is open plan, with a lounge and either a king-size bed or two twins. Your private deck is there for your game viewing pleasure, or a refreshing sundowner before dinner is served. Our four King Suites offer a private haven away from the main lodge along a wooden walkway. The open-plan suites each have their own lounge and secluded balcony from which to watch the game pass by. Your en-suite bathroom is a retreat from the days’ activities, with a deep-soaking tub, indoor and outdoor showers, and underfloor heating for those chilly winter mornings.
Family Suite
The Family Suite has two bedrooms both en-suite, with a family lounge separating them with doors opening up onto a beautiful deck. The main suite has a king-size bed with both an indoor and outdoor shower as well as a deep-soaking tub. The second bedroom has twin beds with a bath and indoor shower. Situated along a wooden walkway, our two family suites provide luxury family accommodation at Hlosi Game Lodge. The two-bedroom suites each have their own private decks, overlooking the vast plains below the lodge, and the perfect spot for families to gather and spend some quality time.
Luxury Family Tent
The Luxury Family Safari Tent has two bedrooms. The main bedroom has a king-size bed while the second has twin beds. A full en-suite bathroom joins the rooms. The tent is built on a raised wooden platform with three viewing decks offering a 180-degree viewing experience. Hlosi’s Luxury Family Tents offer families a memorable tented safari experience without compromising on luxury or comfort. Our 2-bedroom tents have all the modern conveniences, including air conditioners, electric blankets and minibar. Hlosi tents are our greenest product to date, with extremely energy-efficient water and room heating facilities and a combination of LED and solar lighting.
Luxury Safari Tent
Hlosi’s Luxury Safari Tents offer a memorable tented safari experience without compromising on luxury or comfort. Our large tents have all the modern conveniences, including a full en-suite bathroom, air conditioner, electric blankets and minibar. The luxury safari tent has an expansive open plan lounge and bedroom area and opens on two sides onto the viewing deck. The tents are set on a raised wooden platform, and have wraparound viewing decks, providing panoramic views across the gently sloping grassland valley. The Hlosi tents are our greenest product to date, with extremely energy-efficient water and room heating facilities and a combination of LED and solar lighting.
