Where to go in Africa for safari
It’s almost impossible to recommend one wildlife region above another – each has its own charm, “special” species and outstanding guiding.
However we have attempted with the following blog article:
Top Safari Destinations in Africa
The best place to start is usually: your dates, your wish list, and your travel style.
But for the quick and dirty:
If you want the widest choice (and excellent value)
South Africa offers the broadest range, from the world’s finest lodges in private game reserves, (including some non-malarial options), to more affordable lodges.
It’s also easy to combine safari with other pleasures such as Cape Town, the Winelands, coastal relaxation, active options and scenic touring.
If you love big landscapes and a sense of space
Namibia is spectacular for scenery and works beautifully as a safari plus road-trip style holiday. This is also the case for Malawi (but with private transfers between regions)
If you want safari-first wilderness
Botswana, Zimbabwe, and Zambia are principally safari destinations: pristine areas with abundant wildlife and gorgeous scenery.
If you dream of classic East Africa
Tanzania and Kenya offer the classic safari experiences in Africa: wide plains, vast herds of wild;oge, and (at the right times) the Great Migration – with the option to finish by the Indian Ocean beaches. Or the Gorilla trekking and safaris of Rwanda or Uganda.
If you are looking for something off the beaten track
Ask us about the lesser visited gems within these countries, as well as Madagascar for lemurs, mountains and beaches, Mozambique for classic tropical beaches (and remote safari gems) and St Helena Island in the middle of the South Atlantic
