This luxury train travels through Africa from South Africa to Tanzania – one of the most famous train journeys with the incomparable luxury of the Rovos Rail vintage train!

What the journey entails:

This 16-day trip is the ultimate African safari, carrying a band of intrepid adventurers through the heartlands of South Africa, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Zambia and onto Tanzania. It is designed for people who wish to re-live true adventure and romance in complete luxury, comfort and security.

The journey first travels through South Africa, visiting Matjiesfontein, the diamond town of Kimberley, and Pretoria before having a two day safari in Madikwe Game Reserve. You then continue on via Botswana to Victoria Falls where you stay overnight at the famous Victoria Falls Hotel.

After time enjoying the various delights of Victoria Falls, you cross the mighty Zambezi river and travel through Zambia visiting the Chisimba Falls. The train climbs higher and higher into the midpoint of Africa's two Great Rift Valley lakes. You descend into the Rift Valley itself and enjoy spectacular scenery. The train negotiates the tunnels, switchbacks and viaducts of the Rift Valley escarpment. On the final day you travel through one of the largest game reserves in Africa, enjoying a game drive before continuing to journey's end. The train arrives in bustling Dar es Salaam in Tanzania the next day.

You enjoy various lectures by an entertaining historian during the journey as well as plenty of off-train excursions. This luxury train trip is also available in reverse, ending in Cape Town.

It excludes regional flights to the start and end of the itinerary (as these may vary depending on where you fly into Africa). But it includes an estimate of any flights WITHIN the itinerary. Contact us for a quote including any regional flights needed.
