Overview
Saadani Safari Lodge is set on the Indian Ocean coast of Tanzania, where you can experience an untamed, untouched East African game reserve coupled with the alluring beauty of the Indian Ocean. This is one of the places in Tanzania where you can combine a luxury safari with a relaxing beach stay. The park covers 1100 square kilometres and is the only wildlife reserve in the world where you can stroll on a beach, following the footprints of a lion!
The lodge has 15 suites, each with ocean views opening on to the sandy beaches of the Indian Ocean with verandas overlooking the Saadani National Park.
Activities
Although peace and seclusion is a key attraction, there is plenty to do on both land and water. You can swim and snorkel in the lagoon, abundant with turtles in season, sail out to sea to look for dolphins. Take a walk into the village and see something of the life of local villagers and fishermen. If you want to see some game, you can take a boat safari among the hippos and crocodiles on the Wami River and game drives to look for elephant, giraffe, buffalo and lion. Because this park is barely on the average Tanzania tourist’s radar, there are very few other visitors and the guides do not have to fight for access to sightings. Instead they can focus on making each guest’s experience special. You might have to work a bit harder here to see game than in other parks, but there is ample compensation.

Maridadi Suite
There are 5 Maridadi Suites at Saadani Safari Lodge. Meaning ‘elegant’ in Swahili these beautiful suites are appropriately named. Raised on small stilts and surrounded by indigenous floras, the decks provide an excellent viewing platform of the expansive sea. The roofs are covered in traditional thatching and floors are made from striking teak wood. All suites have en-suite bathrooms with a private outdoor shower for those who wish to enjoy a hot shower under a ceiling of stars.
Siri Suite
Meaning ‘secret’ in Swahili our Siri Suite is the only one of its kind and offers the ultimate luxury for our guests. With inspiring views of the ocean, Saadani National Park and the sandy beach on the doorstep, this suite is set apart from all others. A private bar and pool provides unparalleled privacy, combined with private dining and sundowners on the small deck. This suite is perfect for honeymooners who wish for an incomparable experience.
Banda Suite
The lodge features nine colonial styled and intimate Banda Suites strung along the beach and cooled by the soft Ocean breeze. Six of the rooms are feature king beds while the remaining three are twin rooms. All rooms feature swathes of cotton cloth adorning the ceilings, large romantic Zanzibar style nets, locally carved furniture and incredible views over the ocean. A plethora of bird’s calls will act as your alarm call to watch the sun majestically rise from the Ocean with a burst of brilliant colour. The classic Banda’s have a private Makuti (coconut leaf) shaded deck area directly on the beach complete with locally made sunbeds and mattress – the perfect spot to soak up the surrounding scenery.
