Lemala Osonjoi Lodge sits gracefully on the quieter south-western rim of the Ngorongoro Craterβan elevated perch where clouds drift lazily through the acacia trees and the crater floor spreads out below like a painterβs palette of gold and green. This is Lemalaβs newest showpiece: sophisticated yet soulful, offering a front-row seat to one of Africaβs greatest natural spectacles.
Lemala Osonjoi is named for the trees that characterize the area. Osonjoi trees have both symbolic and medicinal significance for the Maasai. All in all,Β Osonjoi Lodge offers a rare blend of seclusion, accessibility, and immersive wildlife experiences in one of Africaβs most iconic landscapes.
Strategically located near the quiet Lemala access road on the eastern crater wall, the lodge gives guests a significant advantage: early and effortless access to the crater floor at prime wildlife viewing hours. With quick morning descents and unhurried afternoon returns, Lemala Osonjoi ensures that guests enjoy Ngorongoroβs rich biodiversity during the best light and activity conditionsβmaking it a haven for nature lovers, photographers, and safari enthusiasts alike.
Days here begin with misty mornings and steaming coffee before descending swiftly into the crater for game drives among elephants, lions, and elusive rhino. You can also enjoy guided nature walks along the rim, cultural encounters with local Maasai, or lazy afternoons by the pool watching the light shift across the highlands. As the sun dips, sundowners on the rim or wine tastings in the lodgeβs cellar add a touch of indulgence to the wilderness experience.
The lodgeβs ten spacious tented suites blend natural textures with understated luxuryβcanvas, timber, and stone warmed by glowing lantern light. Each is thoughtfully furnished with Lemala's signature plush bedding, soft lighting, and natural materials, creating an atmosphere that invites guests to unwind and embrace a slower pace of life. There is also large picture windows, beautiful views over the local forest just back from the Ngorongoro Crater rim. Windows are designed to allow the beautiful Ngorongoro highlandβs light to flood in to this cosy haven.
Two family suites offer extra space for those travelling with children, while all feature private decks and uninterrupted crater views.
The main lodge houses a cosy lounge, bar, and dining area, complemented by a serene infinity pool, spa treatment room, fitness area, and boutique.
True to Lemalaβs ethos, Osonjoi Lodge runs on solar power and aims for near-zero plastic use, ensuring comfort and conscience go hand in hand. It also has strong connections with the local Masai people.
