Overview
This magnificent 3 week Cape to Namibia self drive holiday takes you from Cape Town in South Africa, all the way to Windhoek. With a self-drive you have the freedom to explore at your own pace and setting off & stopping where you want!
The self-drive tour starts in Cape Town. Cradled by Table Mountain and surrounded by crashing breakers and glorious sunsets, it has immense charm and historical interest. Soak up the beauty and buzzy atmosphere of this relaxed city with its cosmopolitan dining options. You can visit the Cape Winelands, where you have the opportunity to appreciate the wine and the Cape Dutch architecture. Then head to the Cederberg and Namaqualand,
And then off to Namibia you go! Namibia means ‘place of great arid plains’. This is an apt description of this starkly beautiful land. The Fish River Canyon, the Namib Desert, Swakopmund, Damaraland and Etosha National Park will the next destinations that you will visit.
Note on Cross Border Fees
There are some fairly sizeable cross border and one way drop off fees (Combined total of over R8000 in 2024) which need to be settled when collecting the car. We don't include this in order to keep prices down. But you need to be aware of it (see exclusions). However, rest assured that car rental prices in South Africa are far far cheaper than Namibia and thus the cross-border fee is partially offset by a lower daily car rental cost (approx 40% of it). Hope that helps!
Tailor-made options:
As with nearly all our sample itineraries, it can be tailor-made to suit you and your interests and time-frame. If you are up for it why not skip the South African part and rather add a few nights in Botswana.
