Honeymoon Destinations in Africa by Season

Let's make sure your honeymoon is matched to the right destination - depending on when you're getting married.

Overview

There are so wonderful honeymoon options in Africa at any time of the year. But the trick is to match your honeymoon to the perfect place for the time when you're getting married. So here are our top tips below for the best matches.

Honeymoon Destinations in Africa - March to May

Head south for your honeymoon to avoid the ‘long rains’ in East Africa in April and May. The Indian Ocean islands of Mozambique, Mauritius and the Seychelles and the northern coast of KwaZulu Natal in South Africa are top choices for warm ocean swimming.

It's also a good time for safari in Southern Africa as their summer rains have stopped, but prices have not yet reached their peak.

Best Honeymoon Destinations in Africa - June to early August

At this time of year, temperatures on the coast of Tanzania and Kenya and the Indian Ocean Islands are very pleasant. So it’s a great time for a safari honeymoon in Botswana, Zimbabwe or Zambia. But you'll get cold safari nights in South Africa so it's time to enjoy the Amarula (a liqueur made from the Marula fruit, of which elephant are also fond) around an open fire.

East Africa also comes into its own at this time of year.

Best Honeymoon Destinations in Africa - Aug to Oct

For a safari honeymoon, this is one of the best times for game-viewing throughout Africa with good weather on the Indian Ocean islands as well. Temperatures are warming up everywhere. Swimming off the coast of South Africa is attractive again. Witness the Migration in the Masai Mara. Or combine Cape Town with the peak flood in the Okavango Delta.

Best Honeymoon Destinations in Africa - Nov to Feb

This is mid-summer, and it is hot and sunny. Ideal African honeymoon combinations include Cape Town with a safari in the Kruge. Or look at green season Botswana & Victoria Falls to take advantage of the best weather in the Cape, and enjoy great seasonal offers on safari.

All of the Southern and East African beaches and the Indian Ocean Islands are hottest and sunniest at this time. But book early, especially if travelling between mid December and mid January. In the Cape (South Africa) there is little chance of rain. So this is a great time to check out Cape Town, the Winelands and the Cederberg. But there’s a greater probability of rainstorms in Mozambique and Mauritius, peaking in February.

Once more million thanks for organizing and supervising our trip of the lifetime.

"Once more million thanks for organizing and supervising our trip of the lifetime. I am glad with choose to stay in multiple lodges and locations as every one of our five stops was absolutely unique. Service and staff were outstanding everywhere. transfers were very smooth and easy. food quality matches Michelin restaurants. And game was superb! I personally enjoyed viewing at Bateleur in Kruger the most , as relatively open spaces gave us the opportunity to see all Big five in no time. Chobe in Botswana was second favorite but mostly because of boat cruises. Lukimbi accommodation, and Sanctuary kitchen were winners in those categories, respectively.
Victoria falls definitely not to be missed, canopy tour and heli ride were cherries on the cake.
Retrospectively I would probably not make any changes to out itinerary! Mr & Mrs Yuly "

I have been recommending you!

"Thank you so much Milandi! We had such a great time and experienced so much. I have been recommending you to some people as well. Everything is well organized and everyone was very pleasant. " Mrs Claudia

Great to deal with

"Cedarberg were really great to deal with. The Drakensberg mountains were spectacular. We most enjoyed Victoria Falls that literally took your breath away.  The river boat cruises at Livingstone were well worth it.  Also getting so close to the animals at Umlani in the Timbavati, even the lions and leopards. " Mr Martin Butler, UK
