Honeymoon Destinations in Africa by Season

Let's make sure your honeymoon is matched to the right destination - depending on when you're getting married.

Overview

There are so wonderful honeymoon options in Africa at any time of the year. But the trick is to match your honeymoon to the perfect place for when you're getting married. So here are our Top Tips for the best matches.

Honeymoon Destinations in Africa - March to May

Head south for your honeymoon to avoid the ‘long rains’ in East Africa in April and May. The Indian Ocean islands of Mozambique, Mauritius and the Seychelles and the northern coast of KwaZulu Natal in South Africa are top choices for warm ocean swimming.

It's also a good time for safari in Southern Africa as their summer rains have stopped, but prices have not yet reached their peak.

Honeymoon Destinations in Africa

Best Honeymoon Destinations in Africa - June to early August

At this time of year, temperatures on the coast of Tanzania and Kenya and the Indian Ocean Islands are very pleasant. So it’s a great time for a safari honeymoon in Botswana, Zimbabwe or Zambia. But you'll get cold safari nights in South Africa so it's time to enjoy the Amarula (a liqueur made from the Marula fruit, of which elephant are also fond) around an open fire.

East Africa also comes into its own at this time of year.

Best Honeymoon Destinations in Africa - Aug to Oct

For a safari honeymoon, this is one of the best times for game-viewing throughout Africa with good weather on the Indian Ocean islands as well. Temperatures are warming up everywhere. Swimming off the coast of South Africa is attractive again. Witness the Migration in the Masai Mara. Or combine Cape Town with the peak flood in the Okavango Delta.

Cape Town, Kruger & Mozambique

Best Honeymoon Destinations in Africa - Nov to Feb

This is mid-summer, and it is hot and sunny. Ideal African honeymoon combinations include Cape Town with a safari in the Kruge. Or look at green season Botswana & Victoria Falls to take advantage of the best weather in the Cape, and enjoy great seasonal offers on safari.

All of the Southern and East African beaches and the Indian Ocean Islands are hottest and sunniest at this time. But book early, especially if travelling between mid December and mid January. In the Cape (South Africa) there is little chance of rain. So this is a great time to check out Cape Town, the Winelands and the Cederberg. But there’s a greater probability of rainstorms in Mozambique and Mauritius, peaking in February.

Incredibly well organised

"Everything was incredibly well organised and left nothing wanting. We did not see all of the animals that we had hoped for but the experience we had was so much more than that. Hopefully we will return to Africa one day – maybe Namibia / Botswana next time. Thank you so much for organising everything for us it is very much appreciated. " Mr James Coleman

Once more million thanks for organizing and supervising our trip of the lifetime.

"Once more million thanks for organizing and supervising our trip of the lifetime. I am glad with choose to stay in multiple lodges and locations as every one of our five stops was absolutely unique. Service and staff were outstanding everywhere. transfers were very smooth and easy. food quality matches Michelin restaurants. And game was superb! I personally enjoyed viewing at Bateleur in Kruger the most , as relatively open spaces gave us the opportunity to see all Big five in no time. Chobe in Botswana was second favorite but mostly because of boat cruises. Lukimbi accommodation, and Sanctuary kitchen were winners in those categories, respectively.
Victoria falls definitely not to be missed, canopy tour and heli ride were cherries on the cake.
Retrospectively I would probably not make any changes to out itinerary! Mr & Mrs Yuly "

Winning itinerary!!

"Without ever meeting us, Kate and Tash from Cedarberg Travel & African Safaris created a winning itinerary for my friend and I! The itinerary was well-balanced in its schedule, activity levels and locations. We started in Cape Town with several tours and an excellent tour guide named Tobi. Tobi quickly clicked with us, laughed with us, and answered all of our questions about aspects of the city including a recommendation for the Gold restaurant ( a blast). After a long bit of air travel getting to South Africa and 3 full days in Cape Town, Kate scheduled a stay in the Cederberg mountains at luxury lodging and it was exactly what was needed. We had a few days to rest and pamper ourselves, and as hobby photographers, we did our own African sunset photoshoot with the mountains as our backdrop. Our trip included 5 days of safaris. Once again, we had a stellar guide and tracker (Solomon and Jeff) who taught us the soul of a South African who loves the animals and lands of his home. Every time Solomon stopped to educate us, we were like elementary kids, gathered around him with elbows on knees, eyes focused, and fully attentive. He gave us story after story of information about the circle of life at Kruger NP. We ended the time at Victoria Falls. All the details for the trip were provided and we had no glitches! Both myself and my friend want to return to South Africa and the first thing I did on my return was email Kate and ask if she could keep me in her files because I really hope to go back and I’ll do that trip through Cedarberg Travel & African Safaris! WHAT AN AMAZING SAFARI! An outstanding job!

"WHAT AN AMAZING SAFARI! What an outstanding job you did! From the arrival of the guests to the end of the safari. I’ll speak on my behalf and let the other guests speak for themselves and give their own opinions. Let me just say the Safari amazing…., The team did an outstanding job, from the day of arrival at the airport with ground handlers to the drivers, to the departure day. Everything went smoothly and without this team, I do believe the experience would have been different. Africa is known for being slow, especially being punctual (as we call it, African time). The team changed all that. Everything ran according to the schedule and on time. They made us feel at ease, stress-free, and truly on vacation. It indeed made me feel proud of my country, proud to be a Kenyan, and proud of the people. There was UBUNTU all around, everywhere we went people were respectful, polite, and kind (apart from the one or two individuals who would hassle us to buy something and especially when they see Mzungu) and for that, I thank you, THOMAS, and the team. Excellent work. A hand of applause to Mari; Thank you to Mari, it all started with you. Thank you for planning and organizing the Safari it will forever be in our memories. The accommodation and the food were fantastic. Amboseli was stunning, although it would have been great to see Mt Kilimanjaro it was cloudy. Eka Hotel was great, and the breakfast was delicious. At the Keekorok, zebras visited us behind our cabins and could hear the call of the hippos. And finally, the Voyager hotel in Mombasa was fun and relaxing and the food was fantastic. Overall, the hospitality everywhere was fantastic. Couldn’t have asked for more. Lastly, a big thank you to my safari team (Resa, Anette, Pete, Jim, Pat, Sarah and Mike) for being seasoned travelers, easy going and went with the flow. The Safari wouldn’t have been the same without great travelers like you. I enjoyed spending time with you all. THANK YOU, GUYS. Sincerely, I thank you ALL. " Mrs Carol Ndungu

All your arrangements/transfers worked like clockwork

"We have had the most fantastic holiday and that all your arrangements / transfers etc worked like clockwork. The accommodation and food was excellent everywhere we stayed. It has left us hungry for more (especially Victoria Falls) so we had better get saving for a return trip! This was our first trip to South Africa and we had no idea how stunningly beautiful your country is. " Laughton Family, UK
