Durban & Dolphin Coast

The Dolphin Coast of Umhlanga Rocks & Ballito lies north of Durban - away from the city bustle and yet easily within reach of its attractions such as the Indian spice markets, botanical gardens or uShaka Waterfront.

An exotic mix of people from Africa, India and Europe has shaped the history and culture of Durban. This results in its distinctive cuisine and cultural diversity. Durban is a vibrant city and major harbour overlooking a sublime stretch of the Indian Ocean. Visit the lush botanical gardens and enticing Indian spice markets, enjoy the BAT centre or take a township tour. The uShaka waterfront offers a world class oceanarium, water park, restaurants and boutiques. You can stay at one of the beachfront Durban hotels or the boutique lodges of Quarters Hotel & The Grange.

 Dolphin Coast

Most of our clients stay in one of the dolphin coast hotels or guest lodges to the north of Durban. The Dolphin coast stretches some 70km north of the city and includes the attractive seaside resort towns of Ballito, Salt Rock and Umhlanga Rocks. Here you’re away from the bustle of the city and yet easily within reach of its attractions. You can swim, relax on the beach and dine on seafood at beachfront restaurants. The waters of the Indian Ocean are warm all year round.

As you might expect the Dolphin Coast is famous for its bottle-nosed dolphins. You can take a boat cruise to view them at close range. Furthermore, the golf courses at Zimbali, Mount Edgecombe and the Royal Durban are some of the best in South Africa.

Everywhere, the traditional arts and crafts of the Zulu people are available to buy, especially their stunning beadwork. Zulu beadwork has its own unique language with every colour having a specific meaning. A Zulu woman will weave a message of love, grief, jealousy or other emotion into her work. This beadwork is traditionally given by young Zulu maidens to their suitors.
