New lodges and hotels regularly pop up in various parts of Africa – sometimes it’s difficult to keep up! But not to worry. We like to stay on top of of things and keep you informed and up to date! In this blog we look at five new lodges and hotels in South Africa and Namibia to look out for when planning your next trip.
1. Silo Hotel, Cape Town

The brand-spanking-new Silo Hotel has brought a new kind of luxury to the Mother City. And it’s not just the lavishness of the hotel or the towering views that stand out from the rest. Its distinctiveness also lies in its focus on art and culture. The ground floor of the Silo will become the Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa, housing Africa’s largest collection of contemporary African art.
The Silo has been built in the grain elevator portion of the historic grain silo complex occupying six floors. By day, the most eye-catching feature is the multi-faceted glass windows that bulge outward as if slightly inflated. By night, this creates a glowing beacon in the Table Bay harbour.
The Silo Hotel consists of 28 rooms and a spectacular one bedroom penthouse. It will make you giddy it’s so gorgeous! Liz Biden’s stylish hand is behind the individually decorated and designed rooms.
Apart from ogling at the many beautiful facets of the hotel, guests can relax at the spa, take afternoon tea overlooking Table Mountain, guzzle champagne on the roof, swim in the rooftop pool or enjoy a guided tour of the museum.

2. La Cle Des Montagnes, Boschendal

Wouldn’t you just love to escape to a place tucked away on a wine estate, surrounded by Franschhoek’s magnificent mountain views? Such a place exists! La Cle Des Montagnes has a collection of four beautiful villas, ranging from two to four bedrooms each. So whether you are a couple, family or group of friends, it offers a charming mix of both comfort and extravagance.
Each villa is completely private and comes with the works; spacious living rooms, library area, expansive outdoor terraces, private swimming pools and gardens, as well as a fully equipped kitchen. And there’s more. Guests even have the services of a butler, so there’s no need to lift a finger!
La Cle Des Montagnes is also a stone’s throw away from the enchanting village of Franschhoek. Walk, cycle or drive the short distance to indulge in art galleries, fine restaurants, local festivals, markets, vineyards and stylish boutiques.
3. Namib Dune Star Lodge, Namib Desert

If it’s a secluded and undisturbed getaway you’re looking for, then Namib Dune Star Lodge will almost certainly appeal to you. Take a short guided hike into a vast desert wilderness and there you will find the nine wooden cabins of Namib Dune Star Camp.
True to its location, the camp is as eco-friendly as they come, ensuring it leaves a minimal footprint. Although there is the thrill of being out in the Namib Desert, you are still provided with luxuries like soft beds and hot showers. Not to mention a spacious deck in each cabin that offers complete privacy.
We highly recommend that you wheel your bed onto the balcony for a night under the glittering Namib sky.
Take full advantage of everything this soft adventure camp has to offer; star gazing, bird watching, walking trails into the dunes and game viewing. Guests can cool off in the pool that overlooks a waterhole, and make use of Namib Star’s in-house restaurant.
4. Epako Safari Lodge, Damaraland

Another one of Namibia’s gems is the recently renovated Epako Safari Lodge that borders the renowned Damaraland region. With a beautiful mountainous setting within a breathtaking 11,000 hectare private reserve, this lodge needs little else to win guests over. Yet it does…
Epako Safari Lodge is both stylishly sophisticated, but down to earth at the same time. Each room is fitted in a luxurious African style, with a private furnished terrace overlooking the gardens or Namibian bush for complete relaxation.
Guests can also enjoy the outside terrace and dining area that overlooks a floodlit waterhole where the animals come to quench their thirst.
Epako is home to two of Africa’s “Big 5”, namely white rhino and leopard. Apart from that you will experience a wide variety of animals at the heart of their natural wildlife sanctuary. Take a bush walk and visit well preserved Bushman rock art sites. Or encounter Cheetah’s up close in their Cheetah rehabilitation boma.
