Days 1-3
Enjoy Victoria Falls and the Zambezi with 3 nights at Zambezi Sands River Camp, Fully Inclusive

On arrival in Victoria Falls, you are met and transferred to the luxurious Zambezi Sands River Camp on the banks of the Zambezi River.

Zambezi Sands River Camp has a breath-taking situation within the Zambezi National Park right on the banks of the Zambezi River, yet it’s only a 60 minute road transfer from Victoria Falls.

The camp combines the ability to see the Victoria Falls with water-based activities based around the river, game walks and game drives in the National Park. It is perfect for those who want to see the Victoria Falls but also to feel that they are on safari!

The main tented camp has a sitting/dining area and bar under canvas. This opens out onto multi-level wooden decks which make the most of its stunning setting right on the mighty river.

On either side are eight luxurious suites, with separate sitting area with minibar, bathroom with ball and claw bar, and outside shower. Each has an expansive deck with its own private plunge pool.

Enjoy guided canoe trips in stable inflateable canoes or boating excursions followed by sundowner drinks on the river bank. You can also try your luck at some tiger fishing. On land enjoy game drives and bush walks with experienced guides in the Zambezi National Park. Elephant can be found loitering on the mainland or in the river, while hippo, waterbuck and bushbuck frequent the reed banks and islands. Lions can be heard calling at night and the birdlife is prolific – African finfoot, African skimmer, pratincoles and Pel’s fishing owl all occur here.

Days 4-6
Elephant Express railcar to the Southern Hwange National Park for 3 nights at Camelthorn Lodge, Fully Inclusive

Today, after an early morning game drive and brunch, you are transferred to the unique Elephant Express railcar for your 2 hour train safari to Main Camp. Imvelo Safaris have come up with a unique way of arriving, or leaving, in style. They have built a special railcar which travels on the railway between their lodges. You can enjoy game-viewing en route as it is open-sided.

Hwange National Park is Zimbabwe’s premier game park. Hwange is big game country with massive herds of elephants, especially visible at the end of the dry season in September, as well as lion, buffalo, hyena, giraffe, zebra, wildebeest sable, roan and other antelope. Game-viewing in Hwange is made easier by the shallow salt pans throughout the park. These natural salt pans offer the perfect cooling mud bath for elephants. Here you take part in early morning and late afternoon game drives in open 4×4 vehicles and game walks.

Camelthorn Lodge nestles in the cool woodlands on the southern edge of Ngamo’s famous. This luxurious lodge offers a spectacular and authentic wilderness experience.

Camelthorn boasts eight massive double volume chalets. Each has an upper deck, ideal for daytime siestas on the day bed, hammock or even sleep-outs under the stars. The en suite bathroom has a shower and bath in front of a picture window.

Activities include early morning and afternoon game drives but also plenty of walking if you are keen. Enjoy al fresco dining under the ancient camelthorn, savour your morning coffee in front of a roaring fire, track herds of elephant by foot, and enjoy close up photography from inside the amazing look-up elephant blind.

Camouflaged as a termite heap, the photographic opportunities from the hide at Stoffie’s Pan are dramatic. Elephants can be photographed from toe level silhouetted against the sky. Such close proximity to Hwange’s huge bulls is breath-taking.

Nehimba Lodge is deeply hidden inside a private concession in northern region of Hwange. It lies on the edge of the mopane woodlands to the north and the kalahari sandveld of the south and west. All the diversity of Hwange’s fauna and flora is within easy reach.

By combining luxury with elegance and lots of African charm, this lodge offers a wonderful safari experience. The main guest area and 7 spacious guest accommodations are thatched tents built on teak decks, all overlooking the magnificent pan – a favoured spot frequented by a large numbers of elephants, particularly in the dry season, as well by a variety of other wildlife.

No two days are the same at Nehimba Lodge and game viewing is tailored to your preferences with the choice of game drives, walking safaris and night game drives on their private concession in search of nocturnal species. The lodge is close to the Nehimba seep, one of the only year-round naturally occurring sources of surface water in the whole of Hwange. This is mecca for animals in the later dry winter months and elephants come from miles to dig for precious water.
