Savanna Tented Camp review

Savanna Tented Camp really was a super camp with excellent staff. What I particularly liked was the standard of guiding (which on both visits has been uniformly very high). I like the fact that they employ older guides who are experienced and very comfortable with guest interaction. They are also happy to stay out longer if everyone is still enjoying the game drive. (We stayed out until nearly 11am!)

The rooms are supremely comfortable but not ostentatious. They is no especially amazing view from the lodge. I also like the fact that they have dinner in different locations: on the deck, in a converted railway dining couch, surprise bush dinners to name some options.

There is only one drawback to Savanna. This did not affect me so much but it did affect my travelling partner. It is the first lodge that you come to when you enter the park gates. This means that you don’t get a sense of untrammelled wilderness when staying at Savanna. Indeed there is an African village on the way to the reserve and so when you return to the lodge after nightfall, you do see the lights of the village. (Once at the camp, you don’t see them because of its orientation away from the village). So it’s up to you to decide whether this is a big factor or not.
