Highlights of Tanzania Discovery, Northern Tanzania
- Safari by road, avoiding small planes
- Excellent birding and elephant in the Lake Manyara National Park
- The chance to witness the Great Migration in the Serengeti National Park
- The Ngorongoro Crater, a World Heritage site
This is a classic northern Tanzania wildebeest migration. Ngorongoro Crater and Manyara safari combination. Visiting three different wildlife parks over five nights/six days. You visit the iconic Ngorongoro Crater, Olduvai Gorge, the soda Lake Manyara and the romantic and game-filled plains of the Serengeti. Where you may can see the constant cycle of the wildebeest migration.
The lodges of the Serena hotel group have proved consistently popular with our clients over the years and represent the highest standard of conventional hotel accommodation (that is to say, a larger permanent structure, not under canvas) in the most popular wildlife areas.
Tanzania Discovery is a safari by road with no light aircraft flights so it is popular with guests who are not fond of small planes. You travel in a comfortable 4WD safari vehicle with an experienced English-speaking Tanzanian driver/guide. Much of the travel between various locations is scenic or interesting (or both) so the journey forms part of the safari, especially between the Ngorongoro highlands and the Serengeti.

Combining with other travel
Most guests on this safari will have spent one or more nights in Arusha or in one of the country lodges between Kilimanjaro or Arusha beforehand. Depending on the arrival flight schedule, this could be no more than a brief overnight stay or a longer visit to allow time for recovery after the confines of an international flight.
Transfer to Lake Manyara, 1 night, Half Board
Your driver-guide will collect you from Arusha Airport and you then head to Lake Manyara National Park. From whichever direction you approach Manyara, the first view is spectacular. From the east, the Rift Valley wall rises several hundred metres to form an impressive backdrop to the lake. From the west, if one is perched at the top of the escarpment, the park lies far below, with a long green strip of water that glistens in the sunlight.
You arrive in good time for lunch at your lodge. Later in the afternoon, depart for a game drive through its Mahogany forest. The habitat here is a mix of marsh, grass and scrubland, which are home to over 350 species of birds that populate this magnificent, tangle of vegetation. The park is famous for the tree-climbing lions that inhabit its forests. Return to the lodge at sunset.
Spend one night at Lake Manyara Serena Lodge in a twin bedded room. Accommodation is on a half board basis.
