To start at the beginning, Brian came home from 2013 The Earls Court travel show with your attractive brochure and several others and we started looking at possibilities; we both thought Cedarberg would be too expensive for us but were pleasantly surprised to find your prices better than the bigger companies.
All our airport pickups and transfers went smoothly and local taxi drivers were friendly and informative…
Daffa, our driver, was excellent. How these men stay cheerful after a 5 hour drive fighting with the jeep on those roads is amazing; no easy task. He was friendly and happy the whole trip and we were all pleased with his knowledge ( a bit sketchy sometimes on the birds but we ‘ learned together ‘ with the help of the books!). Wildlife, of course, does what it wants, when it wants but all the drivers clearly do their best to give their passengers good views of the animals and birds, especially anything out of the ordinary; we weren’t disappointed. We said goodbye to Daffa at Arusha airport…a very ‘hands on’ place! He stayed with their passengers until Passports and boarding passes were back in our hands, which was a bit of reassurance in a fairly chaotic check in procedure and much appreciated.
Hotels and lodges exceeded expectation apart from our first night at Meru Game Lodge. The public areas and outside space there were all lovely but the actual accommodation was pretty tired and dated, although perfectly serviceable. From there it just got better and better! The Serena lodge Lake Manyara, and the Sopa lodges of Serengeti, Ngorongoro and Tarangire were all excellent. Views amazing, of course, but food was also very good everywhere. We were expecting buffet style meals but it we had menu and waiter service most nights which was quite a treat; I think buffet was once a week in most places. Pongwe Beach Hotel was wonderful; very relaxed with even better food than we’d already experienced. Hotel staff everywhere were friendly and helpful but again, particularly so at The Pongwe Beach….we loved it! Our daughter decided it was ‘ her natural habitat’ and was all for staying!
We took only a half day out of the hotel in Zanzibar to visit a spice farm and Stone Town. The spice farm was an interesting and informative tour but Stone Town wasn’t for us although to be fair we opted to walk round ourselves rather than go with a guide so perhaps didn’t get the best from it. The main reason for this was cost. Trips booked through the rep who came to the hotel seemed extremely expensive (especially when everything is x4) and put us off signing up.
…So…the four of us had a great holiday, probably our last as a family, it was a bit of a ‘one off’ , but a great success. The itinerary you gave us went totally to plan and Rangers Safaris did their bit very well. We also appreciated all the phone conversations and help you gave at Cedarberg before we went and were delighted with the program you put together for us.
