How would you rate your holiday with Cedarberg, overall?: Excellent
As always an excellent itinerary, great local agent/guide/driver and good trip notes. Good to hear from Milandi personally when a local problem caused a change in the itinerary during the trip.
Bale Mountain Lodge – lovely location. Our room whilst a good location needed some maintenance. The bathroom and the room was very cold in the evening until the fire was lit and again in the morning.
Kuriftu Resort – very good accommodation and food
Limalimo Lodge – beautiful location, great accommodation and food
Mezena Lodge – very good
Sabean Hotel – dreadful – poor food, bathroom had leaks into it from the floor above. Not terribly clean. We understand it may have been the best hotel in Aksum however.
All other hotels – fine given the standard of accommodation in Ethiopia
We loved Ethiopia – great people, scenery, culture, food & wildlife. Our guide Amenuel was excellent in every way – very friendly, informative, knowledgeable, helpful and went out of his way to try to get us “under the surface” in experiencing Ethiopia, visiting his family for a meal, buying us gifts and introducing us to many Ethiopians. Henok our driver was the best driver we have ever had – safe but quick, very friendly and helpful. The two of them created a great atmosphere in the vehicle over the 23 day trip. Being in Gondar for Timkat was incredible and Amanuel and Henok ensured we got right to the heart of the celebrations. The tragedy of the stand collapse obviously had an impact on us all especially Amanuel who was from Gondar but the aftermath was handled very well by them. It was great to see some of the very different wildlife that Ethiopia has to offer highlights being Ethiopian Wolf, Walia Ibex, Giant Molerat, Mountain Nyala and Bale Monkey. The Dallol Depression was amazing, as was Lalibela. We were very disappointed not to have been able to visit Harar but understood why. The alternative provided was a good choice in the circumstances and short notice. We do wonder however whether the need to make this change should have been identified and planned for earlier as the underlying incident that led to problems in the area occurred in December. We couldn’t recommend Ethiopia enough, however, as we expected, travel was not always easy and accommodation variable and not always of the same standard of other parts of Africa.
How likely is that you would recommend us?: 10 – Extremely likely
