We are now back in the (not so sunny) UK and trying our best to get back to reality.
Our trip was fantastic from start to finish. Everything was incredibly well organised and left nothing wanting.
Some feedback for you:
Batonka Hotel was great very friendly staff and management, great breakfast choices (we did not have dinner there), excellent rooms and helpful staff. It may not have the facilities, grandeur, formalities and history of some of the larger establishments in the centre of VF but for us it was perfect. The walk from the hotel is not too far and OK during the day (we walked back one afternoon) but not recommended for the evening. The hotel has a preferred taxi driver Thulani Gumbo – great guy who always seems to be on hand – maximum wait was about 5 minutes. Charges US$3 to VF centre and US$5 to VF park entrance. If we were ever to return to VF we would definitely stay at Batonka.
Ra-Ikane – superb trip. Knowledgeable captain (Oscar) and so much more refined and in our opinion better than the larger vessels we saw.
Desert and Delta – organisation throughout was first class. Chobe is a great hotel but the highlights for us were the smaller camps of Xakanaxa and Xugana. Much smaller and more personal. All the staff are so friendly and mixed in with the guests for dinner. Our guide at Xugana, Chillie B, was quite a character and very knowledgeable – he kept us fully informed, safe and entertained.
We did not see all of the animals that we had hoped for but the experience we had was so much more than that. Hopefully we will return to Africa one day – maybe Namibia / Botswana next time.
Thank you so much for organising everything for us it is very much appreciated. We used the Bidvest lounge as walk in guests, it was a welcome sanctuary in between our flights.
