Upon arrival in Malawi, spend a night Lilongwe
After your flight arrives at Lilongwe International Airport, you will be transferred to Heuglin’s Lodge or a similar accommodation option in the heart of Malawi’s capital city, Lilongwe.
Heuglin’s Lodge in Lilongwe is conveniently located in close proximity to the heart of the city, but they are also situated in secluded, residential suburbs. The city offers a blend of interesting attractions ranging from curio markets to shopping centres and restaurants.
The Lodge has eight spacious and tastefully furnished bedrooms; five are en-suite and three share bathroom facilities. Heuglin’s Lodge is fully catered and provides high quality home-style dining in a peaceful veranda that overlooks the gardens.
Travel to Zomba and spend the night at Sunbird Ku Chawe Inn
After an overnight stay, you will embark on a four-and-a-half-hour drive to Sunbird Ku Chawe Inn, which is located on Zomba Plateau.
Zomba is the old colonial capital city of Malawi and is a picturesque town in south Malawi. Zomba Plateau rises up to 6000ft (1800m) high and is covered in cedar, pine and cypress forests. The plateau features a variety of streams, lakes and waterfalls as well as scenic vistas of the surrounding hills and valleys.
Sunbird Ku Chawe has 37 rooms with en suite facilities and all rooms have comforting log fires to keep guests warm during the cold winter nights on the high plateau. Activities on offer include guided walks, birding, hiking and tours of the town.

Travel to Mvuu Lodge in Liwonde National Park
Following your stay in Zomba, you will be transferred by road to Liwonde National Park.
Liwonde National Park expands across an area of 548 sq km and is Malawi’s premier wildlife destination. Named after Chief Liwonde who had championed its protection, the park harbors very diverse landscapes and an array of flora and fauna.
Mvuu Lodge is one of Malawi’s finest wilderness camps. Set in lush vegetation on the banks of a quiet lagoon, the lodge has 8 stunningly designed tents, each with a private viewing platform, luxurious furnishings and beautifully appointed bathrooms (including a unique outdoor shower).

Transfer to Mumbo Island Camp in Lake Malawi National Park
You will thereafter be transferred to Mumbo Island Camp in Cape Maclear’s Lake Malawi National Park.
Mumbo Island Camp is located on a pristine, deserted island 10 kilometres off the Cape Maclear Peninsula. The waters surrounding the island are part of Lake Malawi National Park and are full of colourful freshwater fish called cichlids.
Accommodation at the camp features tastefully furnished tents and family units with shaded decks, hammocks, en-suite hot bucket showers and ‘eco-loos’. Activities include snorkelling, scuba diving, canoeing, hiking and birding.

Transfer to and depart from Lilongwe International Airport or Chileka Airport.
You will then be transferred to Lilongwe International Airport or Chileka Airport in Blantyre in time for your departure.
Sunbird Ku Chawe Hotel
The Sunbird Ku Chawe Hotel is reached by a narrow picturesque road which winds up to the top of the Zomba plateau in Southern Malawi. Nestled on the edge of the plateau, Ku Chawe Hotel is a comfortable, fairly large, mountain hotel. However it’s brimming with charm and character – the log fire roars all year round and birdsong fills the well-established gardens. From the hotel terrace, there are stunning far-reaching views across the African Rift Valley.
Mvuu Wilderness Lodge
Mvuu Wilderness Lodge in the Liwonde National Park is a small and very pretty luxury tented lodge, built to blend in with its environment. The setting of Mvuu Lodge is hard to beat – on the edge of a lily-strewn lagoon, where elephant frequently come to drink – just off the Shire river (pronounced Shiree). Accommodation is in eight spacious “Hemingway-style” en suite tents, each with its own secluded viewing platform & hammock overlooking the lagoon.
Mumbo Island Camp
Mumbo Island Camp is a luxuriously rustic and private eco-lodge on a practically deserted tropical island in Lake Malawi National Park, approx. 45 mins by boat from the lakeshore. The actual camp lies under ancient fig and baobab trees. Accommodation is in five reed chalets under thatch with wooden decks. Enjoy kayaking, scuba diving, swimming, snorkelling or simply swaying in a shady hammock on your private deck.
