Overview

This 3 night/four day day gorilla trekking safari will give you glimpse into the lives of the people of Rwanda. And a trek to see the mountain gorillas. Your first night (or last night depending on flight connections) is in Kigali.  Here you can  absorb the culture and history of Rwanda and prepare for the gorilla trekking tour. On the second day you spend the morning on a city tour which includes the Genocide Museum . Then you head to Ruhengeri, the base for gorilla trekking at the Parc National des Volcans. (This is also known as the Volcanoes National Park). This is a scenic journey through the lush terraced landscape of rural Rwanda.

You will spend the next two nights here at one of several lodges such as Gorilla Mountain View Lodge (Pared Back option), Wilderness Sabyinyo Lodge (our Base itinerary), Virunga Lodge (Premier to Luxury) or the amazing Singita, One & Only or Bisate Lodge (Luxury, our Red Carpet price). On the third day you start early for your gorilla trek. You are given a full briefing, assessed and put into small groups for the gorilla trek. This can take between two and six hours depending on the movements of the gorillas. And the number of rests and photo stops that you may need. After the trek you return to the lodge for lunch & overnight.

On the fourth day, there may be time to do the Golden Monkey tracking in the morning, prior to heading back to Kigali in time for your onward flight connection As you travel south through the lush coffee, tea and banana plantations  you will really understand the epithet "Land of a Thousand Hills".

Lower prices for 4 to 6 people

The main itinerary shows per person prices based on 2 people for the Base option with Sabyinyo Silverback Lodge. However prices decrease quite substantially if you are a larger party, depending on the number of people. Contact us for a tailored quote.

Add the Gorilla permit

We have excluded the gorilla permit which is $1500 per person for one day, and also the golden monkey permit which is $100 per person. These are added on at time of quoting for your specific trip. This is because some people like to purchase two permits so that they can visit twice. Or, if you visit Akagera or another park such as Nyungwe, outside of the peak season (June to October), then the permit price decreases to $1050 per person.

Wide variation in prices

As you can see there is LARGE difference in price depending on where you stay. We have visited nearly EVERY lodge in the Volcanoes area and so can advise you. We love Bisate (Red Carpet), Sabyinyo (Our Base) and Virungas (similar to Base price). The Bishops House (Paired Back) also offers a good standard of accommodation and so it's ideal if you would prefer to spend a little less. Whilst options like the Mountain Gorilla View Lodge are much more affordable options.

Note: You may need an extra night in Kigali, depending on your flight connections. So contact us for a tailor-made quote.

An idea of price

All our itineraries are merely samples of what we can arrange. Virtually every trip is tailor-made for you. The exact price of our sample itineraries depends on the time of year and accommodation used. This is merely a guideline.

It excludes regional flights to the start and end of the itinerary (as these may vary depending on where you fly into Africa). But it includes an estimate of any flights WITHIN the itinerary. Contact us for a quote including any regional flights needed.
