Nsolo Bush Camp

CEDARBERG RATING

Comfortable

Overview

  •  Focus on walking with limited game drives
  •  One of the more remote bush camps in the South Luangwa National Park

Nsolo Bush Camp is one of the more remote bush camps in the South Luangwa National Park in Zambia.

Nsolo Camp has four spacious open-sided thatched chalets built on raised wooden decks with reed walls and en-suite bathrooms. The open air bathrooms are shaded by large evergreen trees above, as are the chalets. Each chalet has a private veranda overlooking the surrounding bush and seasonal Luwi River. The chalets are widely spaced apart for privacy and though simple in style, they are very comfortable. On the banks of the Luwi river is a dining 'chitenje' with a bar. This offers a peaceful refuge where you can enjoy the camp's collection of books or view a variety of game visiting the permanent pools of water in the river bed in front of the camp.

Safari Activities

The game activities of the camp are focused on walking with short night drives (as the road network is limited in this remote & secluded area). The Luwi river system is renowned for its lion population. Various pride territories overlap in this area and the cats use the dry river bed as a road. There are few African experiences more exciting than heading out on a walking safari early in the morning, having heard lions calling in the night, finding fresh tracks and following them. Wild dogs have denned between Luwi and Nsolo for the last 6 years and chances of seeing these elusive creatures are also good. Leopard are also seen in the area. This is big game viewing on foot at its best!

Nsolo Camp is run by Time & Tide Safaris, along with Chinzombo in the central South Luangwa and three other bush camps. Usually you begin your safari with a night or two at either Mchenja or Chinzombo before continuing to the bush camps. The ideal safari combines two or three camps perhaps walking from camp to camp. The nearest camp to Nsolo is Luwi Camp which is a comfortable three hour bush walk away.

Nsolo Bush Camp review by Milandi

Nsolo Bush Camp was also a firm favourite with me. Again what made the difference was the hosting and guiding which plays such as vital part of the experience.

Other comments/highlights:

• Great hosting led by Kolo
• Guide Phil was good, (but not as good as Lawrence).
• Great walking experience to sleep-out finding lion on foot
• Million was a great chef!
• Beautiful shady trees, great authentic bush camp
• No wi-fi, internet or mobile reception. Battery charging points in main area.
