Luangwa Safari House, on the edge of the Luangwa river in the South Luangwa National Park, is about as exclusive as it gets in Zambia. Luangwa Safari House is a beautifully designed double story homestead exuding an air of relaxed luxury and innate style. It is one of two Safari Houses built and designed by Neil Rocher who is well known for his previous work in East Africa.
It is located on the Luangwa River which forms the edge of the South Luangwa National Park. This magnificent private house, with four large en suite bedrooms, is ideal for a large family party, two families traveling together or a group of friends (up to 8 guests) looking for a little privacy in the South Luangwa. Luangwa Safari House is completely self contained with its own private staff (hostess, ranger, chef and batman), allowing you complete exclusivity and flexibility. You are free to, not only design your own menus, but also your game-viewing rhythm.
You walk into Luangwa Safari House's double volume sitting and dining area which opens out onto a large deck with a swimming pool for relaxation. Beyond the deck is a secluded reading area underneath the shade of a massive magohany tree with stunning river views. Two bedrooms are on the ground floor and two are upstairs (with fairly steep stairs). Every bedroom is individually decorated with its own en suite glamorous bathroom, and four poster beds.
Luangwa Safari House is open all year round and access to the park for most of the season is by boat or using the quirky pontoon, which is always fun. Game viewing takes place on foot or on day and night drives whilst visits to the local village and school of Kawaza are also available. This area of the South Luangwa National Park is famous for its leopard and giraffe sightings. Mfuwe Airport is approx 40 mins transfer time.
Families are very welcome at South Luangwa House. The staff are fun, friendly and competent. The safari activities will be individually tailored to your family taking your children's ages and temperament into account. Particular activities for children include nature walks around the camp to identify and learn about animal spoor, droppings etc.; visits to the local Kawaza school to meet Zambian children; participate at a local workshop making elephant dung paper and greeting cards; visits to Chipembele Wildlife Educational Centre which has been set up to teach local Zambian children about the environment. Safari packs are given to each child with quizzes, animal books etc. Please note that the swimming pool, for cooling off during the heat of the day, is NOT fenced. Child minding is on offer and children can eat special children's meals at a time convenient to them. They can also help the camp staff if they wish, making biscuits for afternoon tea or collecting eggs from the chickens etc.
We recommend combining Luangwa Safari House with Chongwe River House in the Lower Zambezi National Park and/or Tangala House on the banks of the Zambezi River near Victoria Falls and even the historic Shiwa N'gandu House.
