Chamilandu Camp offers comfort, class and beauty in one of the South Luangwa National Park’s prime river locations. It is run by the Bushcamp Company which operates six such bush camps, many within walking distance of each other, allowing you the choice of either staying at one or two camps or to walk from one camp to the next, with your luggage being portered separately so that it is waiting for you on arrival. The six camps all vary in character and location.
Chamilandu Camp has three reed and thatch tree house chalets, each two metres high, have wrought iron four poster beds with mosquito nets. The en suite bathroom is at the same level and completely open to the views of the river (with an optional curtain for privacy.) Each chalet has a bird's eye view over the waters of the Luangwa River to the Nchindeni Hills beyond. A series of seven ox-box lagoons in the immediate area yields a diversity of species and attracts abundant wildlife. Chamilandu offers both walking safaris and night drives by game vehicle. Transfer time from Mfuwe Airport is approx 1½ hours but this is usually done as a game drive.
The focus is on walking safaris with one guide per camp. Usually morning tea/coffee and snacks are followed by a 3-4 hour bush walk. Afterwards you have a substantial brunch meal and time to relax before tea and an afternoon bush activity. Usually you’ll walk for 1-2 hours until sunset and then enjoy a night game drive, but you might have a game drive if all guests prefer this. It’s important to note that the Bushcamp Company assumes that you’re keen to walk. If you’d prefer more game drives, then we recommend either opting for a different safari company - we can advise you - or arranging a private vehicle and guide.
