North Luangwa Park, Zambia
Walking safaris in a remote safari destination

The North Luangwa National Park lies not unsurprisingly to the north of its more famous sister park and is also part of the Great Rift Valley which runs the length of East and Southern Africa. The Luangwa River also feeds the North Luangwa park but the only bush camps are located on the Mwaleshi river, a perennial tributary of the Luangwa. The North Luangwa shares a similar wildlife distribution to South Luangwa however this pristine wilderness environment does boast large herds of the endemic Cookson’s wildebeest and eland, which are not seen so readily further south, and good concentrations of lion. The park is so remote that there are very few roads so safari activities are undertaken largely on foot. However you may also enjoy excursions to the Chipopma Falls or the Mwaleshi Falls, whilst on safari, which involves some 4x4 driving.
How to get to the North Luangwa
The North Luangwa National Park is accessed by flying either direct from Mfuwe Airport (which is the main airport for the South Luangwa) or our guests stay first at Tafika Camp in a northern concession of the South Luangwa National Park and then fly from their airstrip at Lukuzi onto the North Luangwa park. (It would take 6-8 hours by bumpy road.)
